Musah can defend and can keep the ball. He also can dribble past some guys. But he really can't create real offensive value from that possession / dribbling on his own because he can neither shoot nor really pass. There was a play early on his tenure with the US where he dribbled like four guys in the midfield and possessed the ball against a double team and everyone on TSS and the other pods were raving about the ball. Except his forward motion was stopped and he held onto the ball too long, allowing the defense to be set. His pass ended up being backwards and literally no attack value was generated. This is his issue. Some teams can find value in that player, but you need other people to translate his skills into goals. If he can ever add incisive passing or shooting to the mix, things will change quickly though.
Heavens to Betsy, there's a reason that the reigning Serie A Champions have submitted a bid for Yunus Musah. I watched with my own eyes when the midfield of Adams, Musah, and McKennie stood toe-to-toe with the England midfield at the World Cup. Bellingham, Rice, etc. Pedullà: Basic agreement between Milan and Napoli for Yunus Musah - The figures According to Alfredo Pedullà on his website, the negotiations between Milan and Napoli for Yunus Musah are currently at a very advanced stage. The clubs have reached a basic agreement in the range of 23 to 25 million euros for the transfer fee, but a new meeting will be needed to finalize the deal, as Milan is asking for a few more bonuses.
I’m still on that Busio train that seems to have derailed this season. I take him over Johnny all day every day, but this must be a case of I got it wrong about Busio because the manager and the world at large have moved on. I think I overrate him because when he’s played for the US, I’ve noticed him. That seems like faint praise but for a center mid that’s a baseline expectation for me. I don’t get that with some others like Johnny or even Musah and at times I forget Wes is even on the field. But that doesn’t mean he’s better than those guys, I acknowledge my bias. I do think it’s a pity that such a well rounded player, he plays both sides of the ball, hasn’t found his way into the team.
Much like your descriptions of Tillman in USMNT YA your summary of Musah is just not based in the reality of anyone who actually watches matches and knows what they are looking at. Do you believe than a manager with the winning pedigree of Antoni Conte would have personally requested that Napoli buy Musah for what looks like > $26M if your description had any basis in reality.
I mean, both can be true: Musah can lack what's needed to turn his possession into danger, and a big manager could A) believe that he'd be able to help Musah unlock that or B) believe that Musah would be an asset as he is.
To add it's also true to say that 1)Musah had an awful end to the year and based on both club and country form needs a change of scenery for club and probably a break from the nats and 2)Is still young so giving up on him is premature. Musah has all the physical attributes you could ask for as well as the work ethic and attitude. The Milan situation was and is clearly toxic for him and I say that as a Milan fan. A lot of the fanbase hates him and his play didn't help. Fresh start needed. I am surprised Napoli is the place to get it
https://gianlucadimarzio.com/napoli-musah-juanlu-calciomercato-serie-a-news-13-giugno-2025/ Napoli is determined to move firmly on the market, but without getting dragged into auctions. The declared goals are two: Juanlu Sánchez of Sevilla and Yunus Musah of Milan. Both have already given their approval to the blue destination, but the club has no intention of raising its offers to convince Sevilla and Milan. The management, however, does not want to force the times or bend to the upward game: if it is done, it will be at the established figures. Precisely for this reason, no concrete news is expected before Monday. The contacts remain alive, but the negotiation is proceeding with caution. Napoli remains alert, ready to close, but without tears.
that doesnt sound like the best scenario for anyone- hey, its you or some other guy. whichever grabs this small bag gets to be here. or not. whatever.
Musah has some good-to-elite numbers for a CM. He's still only 22. Percentiles 75 npxG+xAG 98 progressive carries 90 progressive passes received 94 % of dribblers tackled 97 % challenges lost he is 67 in progressive passes vs 42nd in passes attempted He needs to figure out how to get on the ball more.
Anything could possibly be true. I think it is best to deal with what is actually true. Napoli is reportedly offering $25M+ and $2.5M net salary for Yunus Musah, not that deranged description of Musah posted. Gio Reyna sighting at 5:17!

I think Turner has a lot of natural ability and desire to learn. He started the position pretty late and I feel if he can get consistent minutes he'll get better and do well. At least I hope....glass half full..
