Good luck, Jimmy 🇩🇪💪We've reached a new loan agreement with German side FC St. Pauli for Midfielder James Sands, extending through June 30, 2026.— New York City FC (@newyorkcityfc) May 20, 2025 James Sands gets to stay at St Pauli for another year
I don’t know about Busio. Should Venice make a couple of the right players to make a run at a European spot, Busio will get better exposure and playing opportunities. He’s in a good place. I’d say that he and Reyna are in opposite situations. Reyna should have left 3 years ago. He has wasted critical growth years. Reyna really needs to return to the states to play in MLS.
There's a little more flesh to the Spurs option with every article I see on the topic. As this article mentions, Betis likely need to raise money regardless of what happens in the Conference League Final. If they want to re-sign Antony, in particular, they need to raise funds. Johnny Cardoso becomes a priority signing for Atletico Madrid | Marca On the contrary, although the English club could launch a bid for his signing for a sum of 25 million euros between June 20 and July 10 or match a higher offer that came from any other club, the final word lies with Cardoso himself. In this sense, with Spurs' only chance of winning the Europa League to get into the Champions League and with Atletico knowing that the midfielder would be seduced by the idea of wearing red and white, it is understood that the operation could be channeled in terms not far removed from these amounts.
I was reading this comment from the Real Betis CEO and thought it was really indicative of the state of European football (outside of the big, big money clubs). Report: Real Betis make decision over Antony’s future, La Liga club’s CEO speaks out - Yahoo Sports “In Betis’ sporting department, we work on ‘devalued’ players, analysing data from players who have reached very high moments and peaks, but who for various reasons have significantly decreased their performance,” he said. A player like Gio Reyna fits perfectly into this category. A player who, when healthy, has shown his quality in the Bundesliga and Champions League. So for one of these clubs that have questionable finances at the moment, and there are a lot of them..............................Reyna might be worth a gamble. The transfer fee would be significantly less than previously estimated. Or maybe one could loan him at first with Dortmund paying part of his salary. There are a couple of other USMNTers in this position. I think of like, Folarin Balogun. His market value has dropped from 30 million to 20 million on transfermarkt after a couple of "meh" seasons. But two seasons ago he scored 21 league goals in Ligue 1. You might be able to get him at a little bit of a depressed price. Still only 24 years old. Would Monaco want to cash in for what they can or give it another year? We'll see.
Thanks for that. It's still hard for me to figure out what the Spurs option amounts to. It doesn't seem to amount to much, if Cardoso can still veto a Spurs move, and Betis can entertain other bids. I guess they get a chance to match any higher bid? But couldn't they have done that anyhow without having a special option?
It seems that Johnny can still nix the deal, and other clubs are in the mix. Every week it seems like there's a new club being linked with him. Tottenham blow as Johnny Cardoso receives triple-wage offer to snub Spurs - Spurs Web The USA international, who has emerged as one of the best midfielders in La Liga this season, will have to green-light a move to North London even if Tottenham Hotspur activate the clause. Some sources have suggested that Johnny Cardoso may not say ‘yes’ to Tottenham, and that is not the only roadblock that the Lilywhites face.
The sticking point for Betis and Reyna will be the wage demand. When they speak of devalued players, those players also have to fit within their wage budget too.

We might see Gio Reyna connected to every club in the world this summer. This one is Flamengo in Brazil. This Brazilian media outlet says that Gio Reyna is a potential target of Flamengo, who would get him on a one year loan. As a Flamengo fan myself, I don’t think this is the best option for Gio as he would be the backup to Giorgian De Arrascaeta and he needs to start somewhere. https://t.co/SkYmmLoXcv— American Ultras Talk (@usmntaut) May 23, 2025
De Paul in last year of contract at Madrid has serious interest from Inter. Atleti would be perfect for Johnny in theory but I don't really know what his competition would be. Johnny could be happening? ❗️ Diego Simeone has given the green light for the possible transfer of Johnny Cardoso. Atletico Madrid are in pole position to sign him. The defensive midfielder Pedro Soma, loaned to Barcelona Atletic by Cornella, is being closely monitored by Espanyol, Girona, Villarreal and Valencia— TransferRumourMill (@FreePundit) May 21, 2025
One aspect of all that is Barcelona B were relegated to the regional Spanish 4th division yesterday. Ouch. So there's no reason for Soma to go back there. Also, we shouldn't want Kochen there either. We don't want him languishing on the Barca bench We want him playing games, so hopefully he's loaned out.
A consequence of Barcelona's financial difficulties is that they promoted young players ahead of schedule. It's worked out pretty well for the A team.
It actually often does. They need minutes to improve and they get them. When a team has too many good experienced players they often do the opposite and don't play the promising youth when they're ready and they start floundering.

This will be the third national team quality right back developed by Parma. I hope he researches what happened to the other two by picking the money and wrong club for their development and prioritizes that for himself.
