There was an American Soccer Now story about this a while ago. For some reason the link isn't opening for me. I'm thinking the comment is in there. Does American Soccer Now not exist any more? http://americansoccernow.com/articles/mls-allure-why-wages-are-only-part-of-the-story My memory is that it was Diego Valeri that said it, but maybe my memory is faulty. The single entity nature of MLS is part of this stability. It used to be that paychecks in MLS came from the league office and not the individual clubs. I don't know if that's still the case. So even if a club was struggling financially (let's say FC Dallas in the Dragon Stadium days), the paychecks always came on time from the league office. There seem to be stories from South America about clubs not paying there players coming out with some regularity. That doesn't happen in MLS. Players' strike due to unpaid wages delays start to season in Argentina - ESPN Some might argue that this lack of financial jeopardy for clubs in MLS is a bad thing. That Schalke made bad decisions financially and paid the price. Boavista has made bad decisions, and is paying the price. Bordeaux. You see clubs going into administration all the time in England. Anyway, my original point for players moving out of MLS is "be careful what you wish for." Reggie Cannon forced his way out of MLS and went to a terrible situation in Portugal.
I *think* it was Diego Valeri. Valeri fell in love with Portland as well -- he always mentioned that he felt he could send his kids to school safely and he liked the relative anonymity. (I don't know if he quite feels the same way anymore. Maybe still in Portland.)
Tuttosport: Pulisic 'not very happy with the situation' at Milan - several clubs interested Several sources have reported that Pulisic is set to put pen to paper on a one-year extension with Milan, earning a pay rise as recognition for his excellent performances. However, it is possible that he might pause to reflect on things, seeking guarantees about the club’s ambitions.
As some other articles have mentioned, their other "top players" are heavily linked with moves away from Milan. The Reijnders to Man City rumor is everywhere right now. Leao and Theo Hernandez rumors persist. It makes sense for Pulisic to think "what is the future with this club?" How exactly do you squander a team that got UCL semifinals and a scudetto in a span of a few seasons? They've managed it...................... A Coppa Italia win would have saved their season, but also masked significant issues.

U.S. Soccer has authorized a special, 10-day transfer window from June 1-10 ahead of the Club World Cup and MLS will implement it only for clubs in the tournament, per sources. The Seattle Sounders & Inter Miami are in + LAFC could qualify. https://www.givemesport.com/us-soccer-mls-approves-pre-club-world-cup-transfer-window-sources/
Didn't Cannon have to buy himself out of his Boavista contract as well? Not to mention FC Dallas still have never been paid the transfer fee for Cannon from Boavista either.

Yeah. That was a kick in the balls. Reggie left because he claimed they weren't paying him. The Court for Arbitration of Sport ruled that Boavista did owe him unpaid wages of about $80k. He wasn't on that large of a contract there. Then they ruled that he unlawfully broke his contract with Boavista, and was fined 1.4 million!!! So that didn't pan out. Reggie Cannon to pay former club Boavista $1.4 million for early contract termination - SBI Soccer Once Boavista's sugar daddy turned into a charlatan, they couldn't pay anybody for anything. I think Houston did eventually get paid for Alberth Elis. We do actually have an American on Boavista right now. Former USYNTer Gboly Ariyibi. Half of their first team squad doesn't even have wikipedia profiles. Seem like Portuguese academy kids. One of only two clubs outside of the "Big 3" to win a title in Portugal. And it wasn't 1958 or something. They did it in 2000-2001. So this was a club in the Champions league in the 21st century. And, by the way, in the 2001-2002 Champions League finished ABOVE Borussia Dortmund in the 1st group stage. Liverpool failed to beat them both home and away. In the 2nd group phase, they drew with Bayern Munich. Now they're hanging on to their existence by a fingernail.

Been at Welcome to Rockville for a few days so catching up in the thread. A few things I wanted to add. 1. John Tolkin doesn't get hurt I think Kiel stay up. He was creating chances going forward and a clear upgrade defensively for Kiel. He did not look out of place in the Bundesliga where as George Bello was in and out of the lineup for Bielefield both in Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga and reviews on his play was mixed at best. 2. Since Belgium came back up haven't 3 of the last 4 Golden Boot winners from Belgium come to MLS plus Pantsil who was a top player? Vanzier didn't live up to hype and went back to Belgium. I don't think you see any up and coming players go to Belgian teams anymore unless it's a team like Brugge who can both pay more than MLS but also have a good track record of moving players to bigger leagues. 3. I don't think eurosnobs (for lack of a better term) understand how physical of a league MLS is. You can no longer just be more skilled player and dominate. 4. I think people mistake EPL attendance and Bundesliga/2nd Bundesliga attendance as the norm in Europe and... it really isn't. Ive watched plenty of Ligue 1 games on BEIN and a lot of stadiums have no atmosphere. A lot of players who come to MLS have commented about how it's nice to play in front of crowds every week but also (and more importantly) to get paid. 5. A lot of leagues in Europe have roster rules for non EU players so many MLS players are going to run into issues unless they get EPL or Bundesliga interest. They can go to the Championship but even then thereafter a difference between going to a team that is trying to fight for promotion constantly like Dike, Morris, and Haji did and going to a shitshow like Blackburn Rovers or even Sheffield Wednesday like Duncan McGuire almost did. 6. Pro/rel do not make a player better. Josh Sargent did not become a better player playing wing for Bremen or Norwich when they got relegated. He finally got a chance to play as a CF for Norwich in the Championship and started scoring. Can he do that at a higher level? I think he has proven he deserves the chance to but yeah his scoring numbers are more about circumstances changing.
