Not sure if Arriola still counts as "USMNT transfer watch" but he could be joining JoMo Roldan Ferreira etc. in Seattle

I doubt Seattle is getting Arriola and Ferreira. It's maybe an either or. It did seem a natural fit for Arriola to go to SD if he was going to move. I do wonder if SD is trying to bring in players from that area like LDLT and Arriola.

It would be a huge salary commitment for Seattle to acquire both.
But they're both proven MLS-caliber players, and Seattle has a ton of games to play in 2025.
Both have had their injury problems. Why doesn't Seattle acquire highly paid Pomykal, and complete the set?

FCD, on the other hand, seems to be going into a complete rebuild mode.
Transferring those two players would open a ton of salary cap space to work with.
And of course they'd presumably get significant assets in return. Then there's Velasco, who Boca Juniors continues to make offers for.

I am scratching my head after the expansion draft. There were some pretty good players unprotected (like Arriolla and DeJuan Jones) and they selected

Heine Gikling Bruseth, Jasper Löffelsend, Hamady Diop

    and selected and traded:

    Thiago Andrade and Hosei Kijima

It was teams trying to dump salary, and San Diego unwilling to take on those salaries.

A guy like Arriola would certainly have value at a club like San Diego. But for $1.7 million?

Those kinds of picks have kind of been par for the course in recent expansion drafts.

Of the expansion picks that St. Louis made in 2022, I think one of them was still at the club at the end of 2024.

I was thinking about San Diego too for Arriola. He's from there, and I think the smart expansion teams build a core of good, but maybe not great, proven MLSers that can keep them from getting embarrassed in their first season. He fits on the latter count too.

They might if FCD picks up part of his salary. I think he's a really good solid player but salary is too high.

Yueil is the only guy on these recent lists of free agents and such in MLS who impresses me when you take everything into consideration, at least among the "attackers". I don't watch enough MLS to know where he'd fit but understudy to Forsberg (DOB Oct 91) could be interesting.

I think Buzz also reported recently that FCD hasn't received offers from Europe for Ferreira since the Spartak Moscow one. So.......................

[Which would make sense because he missed so much time this year with injury.]

Jesus Ferreira started with FCD academy teams in 2009 (when his father moved to the club). It could just be time for a change of scenery.

If we include academy time, I believe no player in the league has been at his club longer than Ferreira. [Only 14 players have been on first team contracts at a club longer than Ferreira. Many of them are goalkeepers. Melia, Blake, Frei, and those guys.]

Cap flexibility is far more important. That's what all these teams have done for a while.

Andrade is the best player there, probably, but they literally turned him around for +$350k in cap flexibility.

Loffelsend is a nice all around player still on a rookie deal, I think? Bruseth is a U22 guy, which I do find odd, but they must like him. The cap hit is tiny but the slot has value.

They already have Lozano and a few players from the Danish sister team to start; they filled in a couple bits of depth here but the net was really just getting allocation cash.

I think he's a decent fit for what will be a young team but you only pay him that much as a last piece, not a starting piece. He really needs to complement the rest of the team to be worth that.

There's a reason FCD has Arriola on the trading block (supposedly).
I think he's a good fit for a bunch of teams if FCD picks up part of his salary.

    Ferreira to me is different.
In 2022 Ferreira had 18 goals and 6 assists.
    Monster numbers.

For Pete's sake in the three seasons from 2021 to 2023 he had 61 total goal contributions across all competitions (according to transfermarkt). 2024 he played many fewer minutes due to injury. Kind of a lost season.

Ferreira, on the right team, could be a monster again. He's only 23. He hasn't yet reached his prime.

People on this board understandably talk about Ferreira in the context of the USMNT. That's fine of course. This is the USMNT board after all. But in MLS, that guy is proven.........and still young. If he can go to a place like Seattle or a place with a legitimate playmaker that can get him the ball in dangerous positions, he could be top 5 in MLS goalscoring.

If people think that's not possible, they weren't watching the 2022 MLS season. He tied for 4th in the league in goals.

Would a guy that finishes 4th in the league in goals be worthy a DP salary? For Pete's sake! YES!! What do you want from a DP? Goal impact!

No Long huh, who will Gregg partner on that side of the Chicago defense with Yedlin, Shaq Moore, and the five other right backs on the roster?

At this point the players can't really go back to Dallas.
This will happen one way or another....................

IIt'll be really interesting to see what Dallas gets in return.

I suspect a whole lot of Garber bucks plus a huge sell on percentage for Fereira.

Let's not forget that Jeremy Ebobisse was transferred from Portland to San Jose for $1.2 million GAM. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't the largest intraleague transfer still Dom Dwyer from SKC to Orlando? They hit all of the incentives, so that ended up being ~$1.6 million. Maybe I'm behind on the times. Ferreira is much younger than those players.

I dont' know if it'll be that level. It'll probably be less than that. Seattle agreeing to take on an Arriola contract will lower the asking price for Ferreira.
