I think he would’ve played very little had he not been injured. When McVey was out and Matai available, DC instead played a back three with Peltola, Bartlett, and Herrera, ostensibly playing two guys out of position just to avoid having Matai on the field. Birnbaum retired and he couldn’t get in the field. And I would bet a lot that DC will buy/ trade for a starting cb to pair with Bartlett, who had a good season, for ‘25. Then if an injury happens, Peltola is first up. I don’t think it’s going to happen next season. They are going to react to giving up too many goals and that reaction isn’t going to be give more minutes to the 18 year old.
I don't really understand the whole argument. 1) Do we really want this player to go to Bournemouth? Really? I don't like our young prospects going to England period. Do people think he'd play at Bournemouth? Really? 2) He wasn't 18 last season. He was 17. He turned 18 last week. 17 year old CBs don't play a lot of minutes. How many 17 year old CBs played in Belgium last year? NONE. In fact only 5 players under the age of 18 played at all in the Jupiler League last season. I didn't pick a top 5 league because your answer is obvious. Who's the youngest CB to play in the Premier League last season? According to transfermarkt it was Finley Munroe, who played 3 minutes for Villa as a 19 years old. Take a deep breath people. Look at whatever league you want. Noahkai Banks is 17. He hasn't actually played in the Bundesliga. He's only played for Aubsburg II in the German fourth tier. We'll see if he debuts before his 18th birthday, which is coming up. DCU played Akinmboni in 10 first team games last season. They gave him a lot more games and minutes than most 17 year old CBs get in first team soccer. They should be COMMENDED for that. And I also totally understand why they'd turn down that transfer offer. We're not actually all that close to a transfer window. Play hard to get right now. No reason to rush it. Wait to see if Bournemouth or another club will come back with a bigger offer.
He played in two matches before June. He only got a run because of injuries. He was actually sent to Loudoun and they didn’t want to call him up but had to because of injuries. He wasn’t in their plans this past season and because they were so leaky, I can’t commend this decision. Not all 17 year olds are the same, and not all 17 year olds share the same situation. So step off George, I’m breathing just fine!
This is a surprising one. [By the way, backstory of MLS shenanigans on this one. He was a Philly academy player, and the Union wanted to sign him as a homegrown. Minnesota owned his homegrown territorial rights, however. LAFC was willing to pay Minnesota $500k for those rights, so that's why he was there instead. Two teams that had no connection to him worked out a deal leaving Philly out of it. MLS clubs can protect a relatively significant number of players from these issues. But if you're a club like Philly with a lot of prospects in your academy, then you can't protect everybody.] 1854928027622556111 is not a valid tweet id
So Minnesota made $500k, LAFC made $1 million and the kid is at Bayern at 18. Seems like everyone but Philly wins. Does Philly get solidarity payments? Just read up on the story. Are you sure Minny got $500k or $50k in GAM?
He was paty of Minnesota's Academy, and then Minnesota shuttered their Academy and cut ties with all of their Academy players. Darboe joined Philly's Academy. Philly wanted to sign him to a HGP deal but declined to do so arguing that because Minnesota shutdown their academy they shouldn't have home grown rights to the players that they left out in the cold.
No, Minnesota was trying to extort more money out of Philly. The 50K that LAFC paid was a cut rate deal. It was a way for LAFC to spite Philly for signing David Vasquez to their Academy and ultimately to a HGP deal.
I'm happy for Pepi to stay and maintain momentum thru the rest of this season. It sure seems like he's in the act of displacing Luuk de Jong, which is no easy task.
There's this kid named, "Pau Cubarsi," who plays for some little club called, "Barcelona," or something like that. He played as a 17 year old for them last season, and again this season. Like, a lot.
Maybe. But its so "American" to cite the "top 5" in Europe, then look only at the EPL, while ignoring one of the biggest clubs in the game. Missing Cubarsi at Barcelona is pretty shambolic.
HOLY CRAP!!! I guess Tessmann's Lyon state will be short lived. Lyon provisionally relegated to Ligue 2 amid financial struggles - ESPN wow........just wow. That is arguably France's most storied club. edit: It is "provisional relegation" if they cannot get their finances in order by end of season. That.......needless to say........is not going to happen....
They've already lost they're 4th "biggest" club following a spell of American ownership. I think St Etienne and Marseille would argue with "most storied club". Most storied club in recent history maybe.
Even at number four, this is big. This is the equivalent of Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, or Chelsea going down. Granted, Man City might be close to saying "hold my room temperature Fuller's watch this"
