I'd often prefer our guys to stay put more and develop their careers and become important somewhere over club hoping when they're already at a good level and valued at their club. If a great offer comes from a team that really wants and values them, sure move on. But it often looks to me like we see guys make a lot of lateral moves or incremental moves that do more to hinder their progression and force them to rebuild their position at a new club than improve their standing.

Agents get a percentage, so they're always going to encourage players to move. Volatility is more lucrative than stability, ask any investment banker.

I imagine they’re mostly moving to get a raise.

Yeah, I think probably like a lot of jobs these days, to get a raise, you have to move to a different company or have credible interest from a different company to get your current employer to pay more to keep you.

It does seem Tessmann wasn't paid anywhere near what Busio was. We haven't heard any rumors but if Tessmann tried to rework his contract and they didn't do it I could see why he wants to move on. Generally in Europe when a young player moves into a full time starter they try and rework and extend.

Busio signed a new contract extension when Venezia was relegated.
Gianluca Busio signs with Venezia through 2024-25 season | AP News

“I wanted to be part of the team that will fight for promotion,” Busio said in a statement. “There were offers and interest from other places but my heart is in Venice and I really wanted to stay here and work for our goal.”

The haven't signed Tessmann to that contract extension. Then again, it could be because Tanner's "heart isn't in Venice."

I saw the story that Drake is now buying into the club. its a shame because their Kappa kits were fire. The Nike ones are meh.
Drake confirmed as Venezia investor as rap superstar's Nike sub-brand becomes Serie A club's official kit sponsor | Goal.com

Drake has become the latest superstar to take a stake in a football club. The Canadian rapper has invested in Venezia, through the APEX group, in a move that will also see his Nike sub-brand NOCTA replace Kappa as the club's kit sponsor - as per ESPN.

I didn't think Canadian soccer investors in Europe were allowed to admit they were Canadian.

It ain’t just “these days!” One factor in Europe moving into modernity was that the Plague made labor scarce, and people moved to where the money was, and that disruption eventually led to Al Gore inventing* the internet.

*I know he never said that, just roll with it.

Instead of acknowledging that job/career stability was much more the rule of the thumb in the industrialized a couple generations ago, you backed us up all the way to 14th century Europe? That's a bit of a stretch, dude.

I used to get calls from recruitment agents daily back in the late 1980s when people with my skills were in short supply. Unfortunately I listened to too many of them.

When was the era when employers willingly gave their employees raises for no reason?

At this point a successful window in my opinion is nobody under 27 going back to MLS.

MLS' transer deadline was last night. There was a flurry activity, but little involved USMNTers.

The Gioacchini move was a good one for Cincinnati.
They needed forward depth after the knucklehead Boupendza was released.
Chris Albright does a really good job building depth on his roster within MLS rules.
Gioacchini would have been deep on the bench for Como in Serie A.

This is one that popped up before the deadline closing. Teams calling about Sargent.
