Feels like it’s been a slow transfer year in general. The Tottenham purchase of Solanke for 65 million is the highest value transfer so far. The EPL PSR rules really do seem to be restricting spending. Which has a knock down effect elsewhere. West Ham of all people seem to be spending a ton though.
I know there's almost 3 weeks left until the transfer windows close but so far no-one in the top 5 leagues has spent more than €200M. Lyon surprised me but given last years horror show I get it. I’m honestly surprised why they aren’t in for Weston
Combo. Tessmann's agent wanted more of a cut, but there are also rumors that Tessmann has flat out said he wanted tla clear understanding of his role with new teams
A former FC Dallas academy midfielder is moving, but it's not McKennie or Tessmann. Christian Cappis’ time at Brondby is coming to an end with the #USMNT midfielder set to make the permanent move to Norway. https://t.co/D6Qe4mbDkq— Larry Henry Jr (@lhenry019) August 11, 2024
These players need to be smarter about who they hire. Agents need to do the best possible for their clients. At the same time they also need to be realistic and let their clients know the reality of the situation

Too bad we won't be able to watch him. So lame that Ligue 1 is not on Sling now. I have to cancel my subscription.
Sources indicated to me that there have not been any formal talks regarding this deal, however, WBA is interested in Buck per @talkwba. #NERevs https://t.co/zBWWaoAjq1— Caleb Pongratz (@CalebPongratz10) August 11, 2024
There have been lots of Championship rumors for him so this would track. And part of what is a benefit of playing for the England youth teams is it helps with such interest.
Josh Maja's hat-trick can't be good for Daryl Dike's prospects at West Brom if and when he gets fit. He now has two center forwards ahead of him.
Friedel was basically a journeyman until he signed on at Blackburn when he was ~29. [For a myriad of reasons.] All of our existing 25 and under guys are on track. We just need some to take the "next step." Keepers can indeed be vagabonds until the right long-term opportunity appears. [And yes, Hovarth is currently 29. Just as a reference. Steffen is 29. Turner just turned 30 in June. Maybe a full year of being THE MAN at Cardiff will get Horvath in the right trajectory again.] Keeper is a weird beast man. Bill Hamid is only 33, which is still "prime years" for a keeper. He's playing in the UPSL for the Virginia Dream. As much as people rail on guys like Turner/Steffen/Ethan, the crew right before them developed even less. Anyway, the point is that Slonina being loaned to Barnsley at 20 years old isn't a crisis. Play well, keep moving upwards. Keep advancing. Playing games at Barnsley is better than sitting on the bench with Chelsea. Or playing with Chelsea U21. He's playing games that matter with a team that wants to earn promotion back to the Championship. [And he's not the only capped USMNTer there.] This should be a good test. [Pick a keeper in the Premier League and see what they were doing at 20. I'll do it. I'll pick one randomly. David Raya. Backup for Blackburn in the Championship. They even loaned him out as a 19/20 year old to Stockport of the Conference. Then became a starter for Blackburn in 2017/2018 in League One when he was ~22. That path is not so unusual. Then from Blackburn to Brentford to Arsenal.]
Friedel went to college and was forced to the pre MLS fate of traveling all over Europe to get a shot at playing professionally, starting with multiple failed attempts to get a UK work permit. We forget that with a few exceptions, it's only this generation that has really had the chance to turn pro domestically, in their teens. You can see the division in the Qatar roster. The old men, Ream, Long, Zimmerman, Johnson, Roldan and Turner were drafted. Horvarth, Moore and old man Puli went straight to Europe. The kids are MLS products or dual nats. I remember Joe Tolleson describing Tommy McMamara as a promising young player. He was 26. Only in the USA.

Friedel was actually under contract with the USSF after leaving the NCAAs (and being denied a work permit to play at Forest.] . As he couldn't find another club opportunity (went on trial with Celtic), he then signed a contract with the USSF in the run-up to WC94. Which, of course, is something all of the women's players did. So for a brief period there, Friedel ONLY played for the USMNT. He wasn't training at a club. Then after WC94, he began looking for a job again. He was technically "on loan" from the USSF to Newcastle until his work permit was denied again. He was then loaned around some more before being sold by the USSF to Galatasaray for 1.1 million. It was just a different time.
“Guarantee” is a poor choice of words IMO. It’s perfectly reasonable to ask, are you bringing me in as starter, a rotation player, a sub, or an emergency backup? Everyone knows a player can underperform or overperform and change his role. Players just want to know the starting point,
Indeed. Also.......................are you signing me just to loan me out? Which seemed like what Inter wanted to do with Tessmann. What's the worst case scenario here? That Tanner returns to Venezia until the next window? Not the end of civilization. Folks are acting like Tessmann's agents aren't doing a good job here. 1) We don't know whether the Italian gossip rags actually know what they're talking about. 2) They're just doing what they think is best for their client. If a club isn't meeting what they think his salary should be, then so be it.
According to this, San Diego FC has inquired about Luca de la Torre.Sporting Kansas City has recently attempted to get him, too.https://t.co/9nDEiO6mOQ— Daniel (@DanielSmith1022) August 13, 2024
