What's funny about it in this case, is that none of us really know what's going on. Now Fabrizio Romano is saying something very different about the situation that we'd previously heard. All this hand-wringing about McKenine's salary demands may have been a total waste of time. We don't know. I do think the Dest case at Barcelona is a good comparison. It eventually got worked out. its to everyone's benefit to work something out. [Another good comparison there is that neither Barcelona or Juventus are in the best financial position. The lack of European football for Juve has led to a real downturn in revenues.]
I think this is very true. You often see teams wanting to make the player look like the bad guy in public or vice versa, but in the end, no one wins when these situations don't eventually get settled amicably. And most often once the posturing and arguing settles, both sides walk away reasonably happy. It's much more of an oddity when something dramatic happens once the dust clears.
look, juve said hes not in the plans last year too (and went to embarrassing lengths to "show" it) and all he did was be their best mid when they inevitably used him cause they have a garbage (for them) team. hes the only thing between a "down" juve and juve sitting mid-table. so if you want to act like wes is the bad guy here, or poor juve dont deserve this after all theyve done for him great. but i dont buy that shit at all. he signed a contract, and hes fulfilled his end of that deal as much as theyve let him. and hes not holding out now- theyre the ones saying they arent going to play him. and people are getting pissy he doesnt want to be undervalued in another contract- after this experience- to help juve treat him as expendable after hes shown- on the pitch- hes anything but to them? gtfo with that... its not us/wes supporters acting like hes nedved or pirlo, its juve and their supporters acting like miretti or locatelli are. based on what we all could easily see last season they arent even weston mckennies.
They will only "lose moneY' if he ends up staying and they don't play him. In that case they will have to pay his salary and get nothing in return. This has happened before and could happen here. Or they could make a deal with someone like Fiorentina and pay a % of his wages. In that case they get something for him and reduce their wage bill, albeit at a discount. We shall see, but the worst thing for Wes's career and us USMNT fans is for him to stay, get Iaquinta-ed and put with the reserve team for a year 2 years before 2026.
oh I would have dragged anyone complaining about Dest that dude was on silly money and if he stayed and let that contract run out it would hsve been just as brilliant of a move imo because soonest he’s getting back from that ACL is February and that’s absolute best case scenario. He could have absolutely milked more recovery time too. As crappy as it was for Dest, there were no bad options given his situation. Either he got a cut cost move to PSV or he leaves for free in summer when he’s healed. Both his choices would have been nice no one’s saying Weston not taking villa isn’t a risk, balls in his court. Could be ind if those deadline day desperation signings for a club. It’s gonna be a hard pull to get all of: a pay raise, champions league, a competitive club checked off.
Remember, Juventus offered him a renewal which would have spread its cost over more years. He would have gotten more in the long run but he wouldn't get 5 million. They have done the same with Chiesa, and we shall see how that shakes out. He may go or he may stay, but Juve has se tit s offer for him and it is not likely they will raise it now. Either way, Wes will get what he is owed for this year, but if he elects to stay and not even make the bench for a year, well, he must really hate the idea of playing in England then. When he becomes a free agent, after sitting out a year, I don't see how that helps him economically or his playing career. It is a mess. I hope it is resolved satisfactorily for all parties in the end. As they say, no-one is really the "bad guy" here. It is just business. each side here will have to live with the consequences of their series of decisions.
Its just the way European soccer goes. There's nothing really unusual here. New coach and Wes isn't in his plans. If Allegri had stayed in the job, then maybe Wes would have continued. One coach loves Christian Pulisic at Dortmund or Chelsea, and he gets lots of playing time. The coach changes, and the next one doesn't value him as much. Its just the way it goes. If Motta doesn't want to use McKennie, then there's no point in him staying. Juve's probably talking to clubs behind the scenes trying to maximizing their transfer fee. McKennie's agent is probably out there talking to the clubs that are showing interest. We keep hearing Fiorentina. Juve has starting to become active recently. They've sold Matias Soule and Dean Huijsen this week. Now it seems like they're pushing hard for Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners. So Juve is wanting to bring in midfielders.
They have already brought in two. Koop, if they get him, will make 3. Plus they have Fagioli returning after his suspension last year.
Exactly. That's a complete waste of money for Juve. Weston bears no responsibility to help them avoid it, except as he assesses his own self-interest. If he judges it likely that Juve gives in based on this disincentive, he has no obligation to help them out of a jam. Ah, OK, then we agree here. It's just negotiation.
Unlike Wes, Timmy seems to be progressing under Motta: 👀Motta likes what he is seeing from Weah, who will be used as a winger!@tuttosport | #Juventus pic.twitter.com/v58yio8kYk— Bianconeri Zone (@BianconeriZone) August 1, 2024
Agreed, and in the specific case of CP the surprise for me was that the same coach valued him at BVB and not at Chelsea.
That is otherwise known as cutting off yer nose to spite yer face. By both of them. Who can afford it more? Wes or the Club? People looking for bad guys here are barking up the wrong tree. Let's see how it shakes out.
Or Chicken. The problem is each side is trying to assess how the other one will react to incentives, so miscalculation can lead to a bad outcome for all.
BTW, Wes isn't the only one not in Motta's plans. And it is not just Motta. This is a completely new regime installed over the last year. New Sporting director, new President, new direction from the top (Elkann now runs things, not Agnelli) and a new coach. Here is a graphic showing what a revolution the club could well be experiencing. And that does include Rabiot who is already gone: ❗️Juventus are still looking to sell/loan an entire XI.@LaStampa | #Juventus pic.twitter.com/nKKcLoJt1A— Bianconeri Zone (@BianconeriZone) August 1, 2024
❗Timothy Weah could be a real surprise of the season under Motta. The coach has been impressed with the American and plans to use him as an attacking winger. [@tuttosport] #Juventus pic.twitter.com/wGRaIQJAaR— Forza Juventus (@ForzaJuveEN) August 1, 2024
It is a shame that Wes is caught up in this, but a "new project" really is on the cards at Juve. Seem sot be working for Weah, though. https://www.footitalia.com/juventus...on-agreement-brand-profile-and-club-strategy/
My post has nothing to do with mgmt vs labor. It's about Wes' decision and the impact on his career. Blame is being used synonymous to responsibility in this instance.
This is a pretty common situation in European football where the leagues operate under international labor laws. Players have a lot more power than they do here. It's just unusual in that this time it affects an American.
Elsewhere I heard that Juve owe Wes deferred compensation. They wanted him to waive it in exchange for making this move.
I totally understand that Juve would like to rework things significantly. The last few seasons have been poor by the high standards there and eventually it was going to need to be addressed. A refresh is very much expected. It's just that they can't expect players to fall in line and not look out for their own interests as they are cast aside just to help Juve get back to where they would like to be. They made the squad mistakes and now they have to deal with them. They can't just wipe the slate and think it all goes away. Contracts have been signed and players expect to get what they were promised just like I'm sure the club expects players to hold up their responsibilities when they sign a deal. Hopefully it all ends well before not too long. Glad to see Weah looking to be in better position after the change. Interesting to see how different coaches see things with Wes being a bigger part of things and Weah an afterthought last season and now it's looking the opposite may come true.
Sources: Fiorentina and AS Roma are both chasing a deal to sign U.S. international midfielder Tanner Tessmann from Venezia.Nothing is totally agreed yet. No personal terms yet. Talks ongoing with both clubs. https://t.co/m6kb2tRXTq— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) August 1, 2024
If you had told me Tessmann would be the most sought after American this summer I would not have believed you. What is going on right now?
He's a young guy who had a good season and is available for a reasonable price. It's not that surprising as we don't really have anyone else that checks each of those three boxes.
