Chelsea literally has 50 first team players before loan army season begins. They're the worst. Spend money for the sake of spending money. When will Wiley play for Chelsea? Maybe never. Just like Slonina. They have 27 year old Chilwell and 26 year old Cucurella plus two other guys capable of playing left back. So I have no idea what Chelsea needed with Caleb Wiley. The whole idea was just to get him into the expanding BlueCo network. They're rumored to be hunting for more clubs to acquire. Even a club as big as Sporting Lisbon was linked with them 6 months ago.
The rules are also different now in that 1) MLS moved up in the league band so it’s possible to qualify just based on MLS alone without any national team caps and 2) each team gets a certain amount of exceptions per year.
Yes. It's very possible that Wiley was granted an exception under the new system. [With or without the France move.] As a player who played in every game for the US at the U20 World Cup, is now on the US Olympic team, made his debut for the USMNT, and has played a ton of MLS games....................he may have been deemed a youth player with "significant potential" by the panel.
I don't expect Wiley to play for Chelsea but he's going to play for a pretty big club at some point in his career. The kind of progression I expect: 2 years at Strasbourg 2 years at a lower half Top 4 league team his peak years will be as a solid starter for a top half Top 4 league team might outperform or underperform but I think this is his 50th percentile trajectory Chelsea will pay him well and his having a good career for both club and country is in no way contingent upon him playing for them someday. Think along the lines of what Bayern have done with Richards and Tillman. Those are good comps. Richards and Tillman are in good places for this stage in their careers and probably have one more move up the quality ladder left in terms of club progression.
There are a lot of twitterati reporting Mathis Albert (formerly of the Galaxy) to Dortmund is official. Reyna, as it turns out, isn't on Dortmund's preseason tour of Asia. Gio Reyna has no future in Borussia Dortmund. Olympique Marseille could possibly be interested in him again. There is no place for Reyna in the center as Julian Brandt is set and Kjell Wätjen is to be promoted.[🌕: @berger_pj, @SkySportDE] pic.twitter.com/oA8f9ag5MO— USMNT Otaku 🇺🇸 (@USMNTOtaku) July 23, 2024
(🌕) USMNT transfer news from @tombogert 🔘 Several clubs have lined up for Bryan Reynolds with a German club & an English club pushing the hardest. Reynolds is likely to leave Westerlo this summer. 🇩🇪🏴🔘 A Qatari club is pursuing Duncan McGuire. Clubs in Europe also remain… pic.twitter.com/SwYNhfDYEi— USMNT Otaku 🇺🇸 (@USMNTOtaku) July 23, 2024
Reyna should easily be able to find a good club where he’s a key player in any of the big 5 Leagues… although I don’t really want to see him in England.
Reynolds was best when he was able to hit early, pinpoint crosses while at FCD. I haven't seen anyone take advantage of those since. They were Beckhamesque. He's a physical specimen but just seems to never take off anywhere. Is he ready for a move up as he doesn't seem to have mastered where he's at.
Hull was the team we heard about earlier interest from. Sources: USMNT fullback Bryan Reynolds a Hull City target as Westerlo defender draws transfer interest from England, France and Turkey | Goal.com US Bryan Reynolds has A LOT of tools. He apparently did have a good season at Westerlo. My guess is none of us watch Westerlo on a weekly basis. He's a converted forward (even played forward for us at the U17 World Cup). He's always been good going forward. His crossing is excellent too. The defensive side is where he needed to put in work.
Rumor of Duncan McGuire interest from Italian clubs Torino and Lecce: https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/ser...dagli-usa-contatti-per-duncan-mcguire-1993023
I like Marseille for Gio. If I had to pick, I think La Liga or Seria A would maybe be better but I also like Ligue 1. De Zerbi at Marseille might be a good manager for Gio with his typical style of play and a 4-2-3-1
Torino interest came up a month or so ago when there were rumors McGuire qualified for an EU passport

Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah can get reinforcement from the USMNT at AC Milan (msn.com) Been hearing a little about this. Maybe heating up? Not sure what they mean about the Italian passport. ? Cardoso’s background is quite unique. Born in New Jersey, he moved to Brazil as an infant and has dual nationality. This allows him to hold an Italian passport, making it easier for him to join European clubs
Oh hell yes, that would be perfect. Fiorentina is pretty efficient at grabbing players and churning them for a profit later. I know the Juve-Fiorentina rivalry thing, but this wouldnt be the first time Juve and Fiorentina have been dance partners when negotiating players.
As far as I know, Johnny already has an Italian passport. We've seen him connected with a whole bunch of Serie A clubs. I wonder if he speaks some Italian...................... Fiorentina approach USMNT midfielder Cardoso - Yahoo Sports The American also has an Italian passport, which would allow him to register in Serie A as an EU player and not take up a precious slot.
And someone has posted a link to that in his Wikipedia entry. First mentioned on BigSoccer by Boston Red in 2022.
The more USMNT players in Serie A the better. Overall it is a better development league than most as many of our players lack tactical development which they will get in spades in Italy.
