I think CCV is a better option and I know that he wasn't in camp this time because of an injury, but McKenzie is getting minutes in Belgium, was brought into camp, and got minutes. The problem is with injuries, we don't really have many great options. Horvath has gone the full 90 in all 11 of Lutton's Championship games this season with 3 shutouts...
This is mostly true, but after failing to qualify for 2018, it was a damned-if-you-do situation. We had an entire generation of guys last time around that had plenty of experience and plenty of talent, but were possibly beyond their sell-by dates and lacking in competitive hunger. So once those guys started getting phased out for this cycle, the youth movement was inevitable. And if the youngest guys turn out to be the best players, well... you have to take the bad of that with the good of that. Still, this program has had a pretty darn good couple of seasons. I'm not ready to abandon all hope yet simply because of a couple unimpressive friendlies.
I don't know if it's a travesty. We have a better, younger generation and I have zero problems with them playing. Absolutely. Give Hugo Perez this player pool and I would be excited as hell for the Cup.
I'm with you in general, it's just bewildering that we have basically zero guys "in their prime" that are good enough for the national team. Barely any MLS All Star level guys in that range either. It's a major failing on the development front. The 2018 failure had guys over 30 and guys that were 20 and a bunch of guys in their prime who really weren't good enough.
I agree that it's great that this young group is so talented. We've never had so many guys playing in the middle of the park in Europe. It's wonderful. My complaint stems mostly from the lost generation. Over 30 and Under 23 pretty much means we had 6 years of age group players that didn't produce a single national team capable player.
Part of the problem is we held on to players way too long. We overvalue experience to the point of becoming a detriment.
It's easy to get a shutout when the opposition has zero shots on goal. 70% possession, 12 shots, 0 on goal for Hull City. Wait, this sounds familiar.
At this point, I agree. I get that GB has his system but if your system is telling you leave home a veteran CB who is captaining a Premier League side and a striker leading his team in goals a top the Bundesliga…I’d start to question the system
??? I’m not being a dick. I’m just disagreeing with you—I don’t think Ream should go to the WC. It just so happens that one comma changes the meaning of that sentence.
And Scally and Gladbach got smoked by newly promoted Bremen....so we shall see. The 4th goal was a own goal, and the Bremen fans started singing the Gladbach goal song (the Gladbach website has a webradio broadcast of all games)... That's some good snark, right there.
