GK (3): Steffen (27), Horvath (27), Guzan (37) Turner (28) I think at 27 or 28 one of those three ought to be able to provide the necessary leadership. You could take Guzan as a goalkeeping coach. Fullback (4): Dest (22), A. Robinson (25), Yedlin (29), and Vines (23) Cannon (24) I'm not sure about Vines yet. We'll see what happens during the rest of the GC. Centerback (4): Brooks (29), Zimmerman (29), Miagza (27), Long (30), Richards (22), Sands (22), CCV (24) I'm assuming Richards gets a full season at Bayern. Sands is in for his versatility as he can also play at number 6. I was pretty sure CCV had played left-back but it turns it was a one-off against Man City in the FA Cup. Midfield (8): Adams (23), McKennie (24), Pulisic (24), Acosta (27), Aaronson (22), Musah (19), Busio (20), Clark (19), Lletget (29) Although it's a very young midfield Adams and McKennie have maturity beyond their years. Clark is representative of the young talent coming through but it could be Cowell or Tessman or Pomykal. Lletget is in because he's always in. I moved Morris up front but he and Weah can also play in midfield. Forwards (4): Sargent (23), Hoppe (21), Zardes (31), Dike (22) Morris (28), Weah (22), Reyna (20) So I put Weah ahead of Dike for his versatility and pace but it all depends where Dike and Hoppe play over the next year and a bit. If Dike and Hoppe start banging in goals in a top 5 league there'll be some tough choices. Whatever happens they're will be a lot of changes over the next 8 or 9 months. The squad will be in a state of flux, which is reflective of the amount of talent coming through.
Makes you wonder, will we be the only team, possibly, without a single player over the age of 30 at the tournament? Hell, this team is so young that it projects to not hit its peak until 2026 ~ when we’ll be playing at home.
My projected starters and backups based on GB's 4-3-3 Pulisic---------Sargent---Reyna DeLaFuente Pefok Weah Mckennie---Adam---Musah Aaronson Sands Cappis A.Robinson---Brooks---Richards------Dest Vines Miazga M.Robinson Reynolds Don't fall asleep on Christian Cappis, he is a two-way #8 with size and smartness. He has been playing great from the get-go for Brondby, the Danish Super Liga Champion. M.Robinson is actually a right-footer CB. I like that he has been improving every game in the G.C. His physical attributes is what is giving him a chance to beat out other CBs for the backup role. Vines is my current choice, There are more dynamic players that may be better if they decide to switch to our team. I like J.Gomez a lot, he will be transferring to Real Sociedad in La Liga this winter break, and if he makes the first team, then anything is possible. I also like Alex Mighten as a left-sided wingback, the kid has excellent attacking skills and defends like a fullback. I like Reynolds to become a better wingback than any other player not named Dest. I'm also keeping my eye on Joe Scaly, the kid looks to be special, super strong for an 18-year-old. If he makes Borussia Mönchengladbach first team, watch out. I see Aaronson moving to mid-field because I expect a big season from Konrad, forcing Aaronson to move. He is a better player than Lletget both as an attacking and defending mid. It will boil down how much of an MLS agenda GB wants it to be.
My shortlist player pool of guys, right now, with the most realistic chance of making the 2022 WC roster... ***** = key player **** = near lock *** = safe bet ** = contender * = must do more GOALKEEPERS 1. Zack Steffen **** (he’ll be one of the three but he’s not a lock to be #1) 2. Matt Turner *** (I believe he’s got a hold of one of the three spots now) 3. Ethan Horvath * (will drop off if he doesn’t earn starting spot at Forest) - 4. David Ochoa * (if he’ll commit, he could knock off Horvath if Ethan doesn’t start for club) Out: Sean Johnson, Brad Guzan RIGHT BACKS 1. DeAndre Yedlin ** (WC experience helps him unless he gets knocked off) 2. Shaq Moore * (Gold Cup reward) - 3. Reggie Cannon * (he let Moore surpass him... club situation will determine a lot) 4. Bryan Reynolds * (if he starts for Roma, he’ll skyrocket) 5. Joe Scally * (if he starts for Gladbach, he’s going to skyrocket) Out: Aaron Herrera, Kyle Duncan, Tim Chandler, Julian Araujo LEFT BACKS 1. Sergino Dest (needed on the left) ***** 2. Antonee Robinson ** (needs a better club) - 3. Sam Vines ** (needs a move to Europe) 4. George Bello * (needs a move to Europe) Out: Kevin Paredes, Jonathan Gomez, John Tolkin, Kik Pierie (dual) CENTER BACKS 1. John Brooks ***** 2. Chris Richards ** (club situation and health will determine his future) 3. Walker Zimmerman * (I like his leadership) 4. Mark McKenzie * (roll of the dice pick) - 5. Cameron Carter-Vickers * (depends on club move / success) 6. Miles Robinson * (needs to play with his head on fire for rest of Gold Cup) 7. Matt Miazga * (dropping but not forgotten) 8. Lennard Maloney * (if he even becomes Dortmund’s third choice... he’ll get a shot) Out: Tim Ream, Aaron Long, Justin Che, Erik Palmer-Brown, Donovan Pines, Henry Kessler MIDFIELDERS 1. Weston McKennie ***** 2. Tyler Adams ***** 3. Yunus Musah *** 4. Sebastian Lletget ** (until someone knocks him off his pedestal) 5. James Sands * (Gold Cup played him in) 6. Kelyn Acosta * (versatility sneaks him in for now) - 7. Gianluca Busio * (needs to get stronger to break in) 8. Johnny Cardoso * (should get his shot in qualifying) 9. Luca de la Torre * (should not be forgotten) 10. Tanner Tessman * (we’ll see how Venezia move goes) 11. Julian Green * (we’ll see how he does in the Bundesliga) Out: Owen Otasowie, Jackson Yuiell, Eryk Williamson, Cristian Roldan, Chris Durkin, Christian Cappis, Leon Flach, Moses Nyeman, Taylor Booth, Andres Perea, Jacob Montes, Cole Bassett ATTACKERS 1. Christian Pulisic ***** 2. Gio Reyna ***** 3. Brenden Aaronson **** 4. Tim Weah **** 5. Konrad de la Fuente ** (if he gets PT for OM, he’s going to earn his shot) 6. Caden Clark * (might skyrocket on the team) - 7. Cade Cowell * (needs to be higher on Berhalter’s pecking order) 8. Paul Arriola * (slipping) 9. Jordan Morris * (injury return) 10. Richie Ledezma * (injury return) Out: Niko Gioacchini, Jonathan Lewis, Tyler Boyd, Chris Mueller, Paxton Pomykal, Djordje Mihailovic, Duane Holmes, Alex Mendez, Alex Mighten (dual) FORWARDS 1. Daryl Dike ** (needs a better club) 2. Jordan Pefok * (needs to take opportunities) - 3. Josh Sargent * (needs a better club) 4. Matthew Hoppe * (needs a better club) 5. Ricardo Pepi * (should get his shot) 6. Gyasi Zardes * (Berhalter won’t let him go if no one else makes him irrelevant) Out: Jozy Altidore, Folarin Balogun (dual), Malick Sanogo (dual), Jesus Ferreira, Rubio Rubin, Haji Wright, Andrija Novakovich, Sebastian Soto, Mason Toye Ultimately, I believe that this team has an idea of what it wants to be going into the WCQ but expect this team to change drastically in the next year. Guys like Lletget, Acosta, etc. are still in the picture, but other guys should knock them off if they develop like they should.

After the Gold Cup, I'm not sure Julian will choose USA. He looks like he prefers USA but prob understands the depth of the RB position. Yes I'm a Galaxy fan but he's been playing out of his mind lately and I rate his ceiling up there with Dest's, and he's younger. I can see him playing his way onto the 1st choice 23 if he chooses USMNT, but that's the rub. he prob sees the list and might choose Mexico knowing he'll have an easier time competing for spots there.

WCQ starts in 1 month. I just don't see Berhalter bringing in anyone new for the first round of qualifiers (maybe at most he brings in 1 or 2 new guys). I have heard he is thinking about bringing in 30. Based on my spreadsheet this is who I think is called next month. This is based on a 433. GK (3): Steffan - 1493 min Turner - 660 min Horvath - 331 min CB (5): Robinson - 879 Miazga - 873 Brooks - 641 Sands - 494 McKenzie - 472 LB (3): Ream - 1591 Dest - 765 Vines - 600 RB (3): Cannon - 1171 Moore - 394 Yedlin - 343 Mids (8): Lletget - 1440 McKennie - 1439 Roldan - 1200 Acosta - 863 Busio - 478 Musah - 377 Adams - 333 Williamson - 189 Attackers (8): Arriola - 1390 Zardes - 1178 Pulisic - 1119 Sargent - 802 Reyna - 526 Aaronson - 420 Hoppe - 358 Weah - 201 Injured: Long - 1534 Zimmmerman - 879 Morris - 749 Just Missed: D: A Robinson - 250 Bello - 191 M: Yueill - 931 Busio - 478 F: Dike - 459 Lewis - 297 Gioacchini - 266 Pefok - 178
Since I wrote this, Zman and Robinson may have moved up in the pecking order. Milles has been spectacular in the G.C. He may end up being Brooks's partner since he is a righty.
You wonder if Konrad is not seasoned enough for GB, is GB going to keep Aaronson as Puli's backup or is Hoppe going to get reps at the wing and not at CF? Remember, Zardes is GB's boy and did well in the GC It's unfortunately Gioacchini doesn't have much of a chance unless the top offensive players either fall out of form or get injure.
He posted on his Twitter a statement but I can't f*cking read it because I don't have a twitter account.
Close. See how it cuts off at the end? it won't let me read the entire thing because I still don't have a twitter account. Then when I click on it I see: " Don’t miss what’s happening People on Twitter are the first to know." I would post the screenshot but its not working for some reason
(Someone shared it on reddit) https://imgur.com/a/RqpPIF2 https://brandfolder.com/workbench/extract-text-from-image Hello everyone! I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has reached out to me with amazing messages over the all-star week. It was an incredible experience to meet and play with, and against, not just teammates - but also some of my idols growing up. I grew up in a unique part of the USA. Living in El Paso and having my family in Ciudad Juarez meant every week I would cross the border to visit friends and family. I have grown up always immersed in my Mexican heritage. I love everything about my culture, my people, my food, and I am very proud to be Mexican- American. At the same time, I was born and raised in the USA. This country has given me and my family a home, and endless possibilities to achieve my dreams. It has supported me, it has lifted me up, and it has shown me when you work hard you will be rewarded. I am very proud to be called in to help the u/USMNT qualify for the 2022 World Cup. This means the world to me. I will give my everything for you all. Thank you and I can't wait to see you in Nashville!
Time to add the September WCQ roster to the spreadsheet. There are no new additions to include this time. I thought Pepi would be new, but he was already included on one of the 3 provisional rosters. Here is the link to the Google Sheet Based on the rules for this pool, Berhalter has 124 players in the pool. 15 GK, 39 Defenders, 32 Midfielders, and 38 AM/Forwards So far Berhalter had 3 provisional rosters, 16 camps, and 34 game-day rosters as head coach. This linked spreadsheet is based on the following rosters, camps and, games. Here's where I am heading into the October window after last night's performance: Starters (11): ------------------------Turner------------------------------ Yedlin---M.Robinson---McKenzie--- A.Robinson ------------------Adams---Acosta------------------------ ------------Reyna---Pulisic---Aaronson--------------- --------------------------Pepi------------------------------- Definite reserves if healthy (13): Steffen, Horvath, Dest, Vines, Brooks, Zimmerman, Ream, McKennie, Roldan, Lleget, Zardes, Arriola, Pefok Conditional reserves dependent on getting regular PT for their European club teams (8): Richards (Hoffenheim), Reynolds (AS Roma), Hoppe (Mallorca), Musah (Valencia), Sargent (Norwich), Weah (Lille), Konrad (Marseille), Gioacchini (Montpelier) That's 32 potential players total.... Sands and Bello get left out, as both looked in over their heads to me.....
I like that lineup. I think you could see them split the best XI across multiple games. I would rather have Aaronson backup Pulisic and Acosta backup Adams and have all four stay fresh than shoehorn them all into the lineup and wear them down... I think if Musah is healthy he will be a key player next window. Heck I would bring 30 players just to have enough 2 backups everywhere in case of emergency. It should be noted how much Honduras slowed down at the end of the game. We need to be in position to crush Costa Rica in the same way in the third game in Oct. I think Sands was played way out of his comfort zone and he will never be the box to box midfielder he was asked to be in the first half vs Honduras. He is still useful as a CB/6 backup, but as an 8 his lack of mobility is highlighted in a bad way.
