gracias. Corrected. In updating this, I'm thrilled that many have moved to the active list from the lower one but now notice that the lower list is getting smaller. Whom am I missing with real upside?

Sabbi transferred away from Hobro to Odense.

Ledezma is at PSV. Mendez IS at Ajax.

I thought Sabbi's transfer is not until next summer.
I stand corrected on Mendez, I knew Ledezman was playing with a USA teammate but that was with Glosler.

    Sorry about that.

    Some thoughts on the positions:

Starting GK: Zack Steffen - probably the biggest gap between the starter and first not on the roster.
The big-game veteran GK who won't poo his pants if everyone else does: Brad Guzan. Will make it even if a younger player outplays him.
Young GK: The third is usually a glue guy veteran or a young guy to take it all in. I have no idea on this one, not even who is the top candidate in each category.

Looks like Uly Llanez is training with the Wolfsburg first team as they've started training again.

Honestly I really wanted to see USA at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia 2 years ago but not qualifying actually helps the USA to rebuild its program. With 2022 approaching, I can definitely see you guys back at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Much respect from me...a Ghanaian/Canadian!!!

Any concern that we don't have a lengthy list of potential elite (UCL knockout round regular) players in the pipeline now that Reyna has emerged?

    Here's @Eleven Bravo 's list:

[1.] Joseph Scally, 2002*(19) Borussia Moenchengladbach > New York City FC (N/R)
    [1.] Chris Richards, 2000*(22) Bayern Munich *
    [1.] Chris Gloster, 2000*(21) PSV Eindhoven *
    [2.] George Bello, 2002*(20), Atlanta United *
    [1.] Owen Otasowie, 2001*(21) Wolverhampton Wanderers *
[2.] James Sands, 2000*(21) New York City FC *
[3.] Tanner Tessman, 2001*(20) FC Dallas
    [1.] Alex Mendez, 2000*(21) Ajax Amsterdam *
    [2.] Taylor Booth, 2001*(21) Bayern Munich *
    [1.] Matko Miljevic, 2001*(21) Argentinos *
    [1.] Ulysses Llanez, 2001*(21) Wolfsburg *
[2.] Konrad De La Fuente, 2001*(20), FC Barcelona *
    [3.] Indiana Vassiliev, 2001*(21) Aston Villa *
    [1.] Ricardo Pepi, 2003*(18) FC Dallas (N/R)
    [2.] Josh Pynadath, 2002*(20) Ajax Amsterdam (N/R)
    [3.] Maurice Malone, 2000*(21) FC Augsburg (N/R)
    [Germany dual]

None of them seem to have the profile of an early bloomer who can make a fast impact (Pulisic, Adams, Davies-CA, Gio).

who is best positioned to break out (and by breakout, I mean proven ability to compete at a Big 4 level and likely to be able to be at a top club)?

In short, the main goal for 2020-2021 will be WCQ and then the Olympics. Because of the Coronavirus, everything will be geared up to just get the guys playing as a unit. That means that unless someone just breaks out of nowhere, ie Otasowie locks down a spot, Booth gets minutes for Bayern, etc. the Olympics are going to be the primary route for the new faces to break into the squad. Because of that, here’s my group of 33 to carry us through WCQ.

    GK:
    1. Steffen
    2. Guzan
    3. (Rotating) Turner, Horvath, Hamid, Johnson

    RB
    1. Yedlin
    2. Cannon
    3. Chandler
*Lennon, Araujo, Herrera are my January Camp contenders.

    CB
    1. Brooks
    2. Long
    3. Miazga
    4. Zimmerman
    5. Richards
    6. Alvarado
*Glad, McKenzie, and Miles might get a look during January Camp.

    LB
    1. Dest
    2. Antonee
    3. Vines
*There’ll be some opportunity for a January Camp spot. Plus, counting on Antonee to return. And playing Dest out of position in the mean time.

    MF - deep-lying playmaker type -
    1. Adams
    2. Yuiell
    3. Pomykal
*This guy needs to be the guy behind the ball pulling the strings.

MF - physical holding or box-to-box type -
    1. McKennie
    2. Morales
    3. Sands // Otasowie // Durkin // Johnny
*This guy needs to add bite to the team.

    MF -creative attacking type -
    1. Reyna
    2. Lletget
    3. Ledezma // Aaronson
*This will be our main playmaker in the final third.

    R/LW
    1. Pulisic
    2. Morris
    3. Holmes
    4. Llanez
    5. Boyd // Arriola
    6. Konrad // Saucedo // Sabbi // Vassilev

    FW
    1. Sargent
    2. Weah // Ferreira
    3. Altidore // Zardes

    Captain:
Personally, I advocate for Wes McKennie. He seems to have the right personality. He belongs on the field. And knock on wood, he’s not super injury prone.

What I like about this American team is that there is a whole influx of youth but also having that experience but if they incorporate that youth more which is what Germany and now England and France and all other nations are doing then USA could actually be an exciting team for years to come

    Much respect from a Ghanaian/Canadian

We have a very promising group. The things we need to sort out:

#1 Injuries - this has been our primary concern. Pretty much all of our key players have struggled with chronic issues and some are likely to never get back to where they were.

#2 Cohesive Identity - we need to figure out who we are. Part of this is due to injuries. The other part is due to a lack of veterans. And the third part is from inept coaching.

#3 Grit - one thing this team seems to lack is a fighting spirit. Part of that is due to the lack of cohesive identity. But this is not the US team of old.

#4 depth in certain positions - We look okay in some places, but we look very weak in other spots. If Reyna, Pulisic, Weah, Sargent, McKennie, Steffen, Adams, Dest, and company could all stay healthy; it might not be such a concern. But there is still too big of a drop off for us to weather the types of injuries we’ve been enduring.

    Gotta qualify first.

Injuries have really set back this team. In addition, the vast majority of the talent is young, and the vast majority of the experience is essentially done. I think you mentioned earlier that there's experience, but there really isn't a ton.

A couple of the most experienced international players -- Altidore and Brooks -- are both so injury prone that you can't rely on them. Some of the others, like Bradley, are basically done or close to it.

We've basically had two good, reasonably healthy, 25+ player who won't be well over thirty in 2022 this last year and that's Jordan Morris and Aaron Long (and Long is debatable for some pople). If you are being generous, you could toss Yedlin in there because he's not normally this injured.

The best of them are players like Duane Holmes and Sebastian Lletget. This group ranges from terrible (Lovitz) to maybe better than decent, but none of them look like core players. And even the good ones have minimal international experience.

We'll look a lot better if we can get healthy. But this team will be miles better in two years provided they can get any experience in the interim.

Yeah because the Hex is unforgiving and we don't want a repeat of what happened to you guys back in 2018 to happen again in 2022 qualifying which is why USA needs to come out of the gate early by winning games and doing so decisively. My suggestion would be getting rid of your manager and hiring an American coach of course but who is willing to take on the role of coach?

Such is the nature of national teams. If we had any of the top league managers coaching there would be people wanting them gone because the manager is not playing the players and style the fans want. Of course we all know that those fans are far better managers just ask them.

berhalter has done quantifiably worse than any other first time coach in usmnt recent history. It’s not particularly close. Furthermore, not a single core player of the squad has looked to be anywhere near his ceiling under Gregg. The whole “everyone complains no matter what” argument fails when the actual subject is noticeably doing terribly.
