*****Similar to the threads that I started for the 2010 and 2014 cycle, this is the thread for the 2018 cycle where we can follow the player pool for the next four years. I am going to ask for one of the mods @Friedel'sAccent or @bungadiri to possibly sticky this thread as I hope to keep it an active thread for four years and we can see the evolution of the team over the next four years.****

***Note: I have all ages as the player's age on June 1, 2018.***

***Note: the asterisk by a player's age means that they are Olympic eligible.

    Great work compiling this list.

One question though...(I could be looking at this wrong.)

Olympics are in 2016. Wouldn't that qualify yedlin? And probably a few others for that matter?

Thanks. That's why he has an asterisk by his age. Some Olympic players may be included into the national team sooner than the Olympics. Some may have to focus on making the Olympics first.

    I've stuck this thread.

If it's going to be stuck, though, mightn't we need to moderate it a little more carefully?

That's the whole point of the thread. If you notice, players are in categories based on the likelihood that they will feature for the USMNT and become part of the team towards Russia. Guys who are distant longshots now, will move up to become frontrunners. Some players will go from being a frontrunner to a longshot back to a frontrunner. I never claimed to have every single player that will feature in the next four years. I am saying, this is what we have RIGHT NOW, to start building our team over the next four years.

The benefit is so that we can analyze the evolution of the team over the next four years.

I may be in the minority for this, but I'm firmly in the camp that believes a youth movement takes over our midfield by 2018. Pelosi LM, Flores CAM, Green RM, Zelalem CM, and Bradley CDM. That would be a crazy talented midfield if they continue to develop as expected. Then you'd have guys like Arriola, Gil, Nagbe, and Trapp on the bench ready to go. I'm excited for it.

I'm possibly salivating about the idea of these dual-nationals choosing the US at winger:

    Darlington Nagbe (very likely)
    Kekutha Manneh (very likely)
Shawn Parker (i'd bet on it)
Devante Parker (i'd bet on it)
Diego Fagundez (least likely to be eligible in time)

Combine that with Arriola, Shipp, Flores, and Gyau... I don't know about Pelosi yet. And already having Green, Bedoya, Zusi, and Corona... and we are going to have a lot of competition finally at winger. And there still is Shea who has potential but I'm not counting on him making it, and Torres, Gil, Rowe, and Diskerud who may play deeper.

I'd be really scared if Bedoya and Zusi were leading the charge in 2018. But all these youngsters give hope.

I would like to see Bedoya get a chance in the center of the park as an off target play maker and/or a two way mid. IMO, if he is going to be around in 2018, this is where he will be most effective.

So, is Dempsey going to fill the Klose role for us?

BTW, Rubio Rubin started for the Utrecht first team today :)

Also, keep an eye on this youngster (you have him listed as "unattached" in your main table:

I can't wait to see the backside of both of them. Neither are international quality. Bedoya seemed to create virtually nothing this World Cup and didn't have the stamina to go more than 60-70 minutes. We were better off when Jermaine Jones was on the left wing, and he did a better job of covering defensively. Zusi did provide a couple assists, but his general service was awful. Other than the Brooks goal, I'm not sure a single one of his free kicks found their target. On the Jones goal, it bounced off two Portuguese players before landing at Jermaine's feet. He doesn't have the speed to go forward and it amazed me how often it seemed like Fabian Johnson was the only guy we had on the right. Considering that we once had Donovan and Dempsey on the wings, watching the two of them was exasperating. I am desperate to see some of these youngsters take their spots, the sooner the better.

I am willing to bet 100 reps that Bradley and green are the only midfielders who saw the field in Brazil that will even be on thesquad in 2018

I believe that Cameron is going to be moved to CDM to fill the Beckerman role.

I could live with cam as a #6 in a 451 with a mb type #6 a mix type #10 and a Boyd or ja type striker. I would rather see a 442 with a mb type defensive leaning b2b and a mix type attack leaning b2b behind a ja + aj type striker pair, of course that only works if jab developes into an elite cb like I think he will and besler or omar being in great form so your bet is probly safer than mine

Well that's not too hard to imagine. Most will be too old (Jones and Beckerman for sure, almost certainly Dempsey) or didn't look good enough (Zusi, Bedoya), or are both old and complete s*** (Davis).... the other one who has a chance is Diskerud, but of course he didn't "see the field in Brazil"....

Why bash Davis. He had a better game then people give him credit for against Germany. Remember this Germany team beat Portugal 4 - 0 and Brazil 7 - 1. He was part of the defensive effort that helped to keep the score so low.

Also, JK expected his "wingers" to be very defensive. There was more attacking width and speed coming from the fullbacks (Beasley & Johnson). I honestly think he would of performed better then Bedoya against Belgium.

That, and as a 75th minute sub on the wing to lock his side down defensively while still being able to threaten on the counter. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he's on the 2018 team.

Nice work 11B and thanks--FWIW I think De La Garza is cap tied to Guam.

Villyan Bijev is captied to Bulgaria I think? He can do that one time switch thing... can De La Garza do the same thing?
