Good story here on the 2000 team In 2000, the U.S. men's soccer team went on a wild run to the medal round at the Olympics. Several players went on to become - and remain - major figures in American soccer, but then they were a rag-tag group that gambled their way through Australia. https://t.co/PGRopWgoPz— Kyle Bonagura (@BonaguraESPN) July 24, 2024
I cannot believe they gave 16 minutes of injury time, that is so patently absurd and so thoroughly screams "rigging" I can't even begin to imagine how they got that. At the same time, good lord was that a ridiculous spectacular sequence leading to the bull---- equalizer. Morning games so far: Argentina 2 Morocco 2: Argentina draws through bull----, but game is suspended and still being looked at? Even the goal that gave Argentina a draw. Spain 2 Uzbekistan 1: I didn't see it? Anyone w/thoughts. I expected Spain to do more other than just inch across 2-1 barely even winning the xG battle. Dominican Republic 0 Egypt 0: This one I didn't really see either, just moments here and there, but good lord, it was basically 1.4 to 0.8 xG which is crazy to me. I expected Egypt to win easily. Stunned w/this one too. New Zealand 2 Guinea 1: One would have to imagine Guinea are screwed at this point. Guinea were the better side, but NZ managed to produce 2 excellent goals (while missing a PK!) , and Gjinea couldn't turn their control into actual goals. Barring a Guinea upset of France, I think Guinea is donezo, and I'd like to think this result helps us. As Guinea probably has nothing to play for on matchday 3 unless France sucks like they kinda did in qualifying (not suck, but surprisingly meh). I expect Japan to win the 10am slot over Paraguay, not sure between Ukraine and Iraq as both had some bad losses in qualifying.
Check that Argentina/Morocco score again............................. After the suspension due to security issues in the stadium, the Argentina goal was called off by VAR. Morocco wins 2-1. If we end up advancing, that could impact our draw.
I'm convinced nobody actually watched any of the U23 friendlies this cycle. Tessmann has been the captain. For the last U23 camp.................Aaronson started on the left wing and Paredes started on the right wing. So that's my guess. With Mihailovic and Busio in central midfield with Tessmann behind them. But we'll see............
I’m happy to admit that I didn’t watch any of those games. I’ll probably only watch the first half of this one.
And so it is....................I almost got it. We'll see how advanced Mihailovic is. it could be more of a 4-2-3-1. But this basically has been Mitrovic's preferred formation in the camps.
tesserman is only surprising considering zim is in the team. and booth hasnt been in recent camps, so of course he hasnt started. youre not the only one who follows anything, get over yourself.
So you go thru the last two camps with Tessmann as captain of the group, and then replace him at the last minute? That was never going to happen. Its like the people who were SHOCKED that Luna wasn't a part of the team. Meanwhile Luna had played in 27 total minutes for the U23s this cycle. We shouldn' have been surprised when he wasn't named. Why? Because we WATCH THE GAMES!!!! Why didn't Mitrovic like him? I don't know, but that was reality. People aren't surprised when Christian Pulisic starts at left wing for the USMNT over other options. Are they? Why not? Because we WATCH THE GAMES!!!!
Looked about as good as we could during the first half. France was better, but we made them work for their opportunities and created a few of our own.
0-0 at the half. If you'd given me a 0-0 draw prior to the match, I'd have taken it with glee. This is likely the toughest team in the entire Olympic field. Pretty good performance from the group. What I like about this team is how solid we are in the middle with experienced players. Robinson, Zimmerman, Busio, and Tessmann. They're not intimidated by the environment at all.
I’m not minding this performance at all so far. They gotta know senior positions can be bumped given this summers circumstances
Schulte, Robinson, Zimmerman, Tessman, Busio solid Outside backs OK but have to offer more support breaking ores and going forward Paredes and Aaronson lively Mihailovic invisible. Needs to be subbed out, as Busio and Tessman can’t play 2v3 Duncan quiet but not much service
I don’t think it’s an accident Tessmann and Busio play together with their club and Robinson and Zimmerman have played a ton of games together for the national team.
Absolutely isn’t the spine is very stable. Very good decision on bringing miles and zimm. I’m seeing absolutely nothing warranting bringing djordje over Bassett so far though ohhh Schulte…… really?
Busio could’ve done a little better there, but that’s 90% on Schulte. The more I watch. Yuck. Surely Slonina is better.
