yeah i know...at least we got some meaningful CIV matches with these two teams. such a shame about drogba as i was looking forward to watching a full-strength CIV potentially make some noise.

still i guess i should never complain about getting a chance to watch brazil play. especially maicon...i think i have a mancrush.

not sure why but i really like the wheels-off look of the traditional yellow-blue-white brazil kits.

How many times to Fabiano and Julio Baptista have to run directly into a defender before they're going to realize brute force isn't an option?

    This team misses Kaka.

The Round of 16 as things stand now ...

    Uruguay v South Korea
    USA v Ghana
    Netherlands v. Slovakia
    Brasil v. Spain

    Argentina v. Mexico
    Germany v. England
    Paraguay v. Japan
    Chile v. Portugal

Just two matches to go to settle the final pairings ...

    Chile v Spain
    Switzerland v Honduras

It's possible I have twisted things around, but I believe the structure is ...

    A1, C1, E1, G1 - on one side, our side

    and

    B1, D1, F1, H1 - on the other side

with the 2's on the opposite side.

    Edit: See Craig's link, above.

Yeah, but we can't meet them until the semi-finals. I for one would find it hard to be too disappointed if we were eliminated in the semis by Brazil or Holland. OTH, maybe by then my expectations will have risen :D

Interesting. Everything I saw before had the US avoiding Brazil until the final. I guess I was looking at it from the US getting 2nd in the group.

    Holland-Brazil would be fun.

if we make it that far, only have to worry about one of them...hell, if we make it that far....GO USA!

would be great to see a rematch of the AMAZING contest between BRA and NED in the elimination round of USA94. already get to see a rematch of the classic from DEU06 with MEX and ARG. of course DEU vs ENG is always a matchup from world history perspective. and our revenge game against GHA. btw wouldnt be surprised to see one or both of KOR/JPN go through.

can't wait for the second round...esp tomorrow

If Spain doesn't beat Chile (or Switzerland makes up goal difference), we could see Spain-Brazil in the R16:D

If Spain doesn't beat Chile, we could see Spain join Italy and France on the outside looking in.

Go Honduras!!!! No one seems to mention that if they win by a couple of goals then they have a chance of going through.

Argentina-Mexico vs. Germany-England is probably the toughest knockout bracket I've seen.
