So I’ll say what I was told.

    All this is pre-Poch:
-Varas talked to Brown about playing with the U20s but wouldn’t commit to guaranteeing him a roster spot for the tournament. Varas felt he had LB/LWB depth in Wiley and Gomez.
-After Brown became a first team regular the Federation reached out to see about his interest in joining the full team. This was around the same time we also contacted Lund. The word back from Browns team is that he did not want to commit and wanted to see how he would progress with the German program, with a new U21 cycle where he was going to be involved. Lund was ready to commit and got called up.

Because the prior posts were specifically about Poch I’ve asked Edgar if he is saying there was no contact from the Federation ever. He hasn’t responded. I have no information on what Poch has done with regards to Brown.

Interesting, a couple of years ago, the Scuffed guys had on their youth teams specialist, and he warned that the '04's to '06's were smashed to bits by the covid shut down, seemed to imply at the time '04-'05 specifically, I don't remember if he was talking '06's, as they would have been, i think 15 or 16 at the time of the interview, that view seems to be holding up, there's clearly a big gap in quality after '97's to '03's until around, I'm guessing I think '07's or '08's according to the heavy watchers. :(

Will be interesting to see if the drop off is almost entirely a covid thing, or if the reality is that '97-'03 was a bit of a peak, and more typical is an inbetween the covid classes and that seeming golden 6 year window.

Losing Obed and Esmir hurt for that ‘05 class, although those two made their decisions already and the US did try for those two.

CCV over Trusty. CCV and Scales, Trusty's competition at CB were on the Scottish Premiere League team of the season. Trusty didn't make the cut.
Trusty was third on the depth chart.

    Interesting roster.

There are opportunities for several to seize contributing roles coming down the stretch into the World Cup.

Starting role competitors: Richards, Tillman, Luna, Cardoso, Francis Tessman, CCV, Trusty, Agyemang, Sargent

And then you have a field of guys who are stepping up at their clubs who may step up into contributing roles like Berhalter, Downs, etc.

On the other hand if a guy shows up and either looks apathetic or performs poorly, its time to drop them.

CCV has sucked for the national team & Trusty was Celtic's best CB when it actually mattered, in UCL. Who cares about the Scottish League, which is below our domestic comp & when Celtic is dominating the ball rendering Trusty less useful. We need defense, which CCV couldn't even supply at T&T level, let alone Panama, et al. His distribution is even buggy at speed.

I only don’t like Ream on this, he’s a crutch they’ll be tempted to use and it’s time to move and think WC.
I’d go Big Pat for Sargent, personal preference.
I love the Guti/Luna inclusion, hell yes! Malik Tillman will get his shot, but if he falters, I like these guys.

I really am curious how much of the roster will be Poch trying to catch hot form.

Like a lot of the roster still does pick itself but will Poch see it as more beneficial for the team to try and ride the hot form of players like the Vancouver trio, Quinn Sullivan, and/or Zendejas over players who Poch has seen more?

I'm with you on everything but Agyemang. Bro shoulda been a football or basketball player, aint seen a clumsier worst touch on the national team since Zardes.

Players I'm interested in seeing in the red, white and blue: Diego Kochen, Chris Brady, DeJuan Jones, Caleb Wiley, John Tolkin, Marlon Fossey, Paxten Aaronson, Johnny Cardoso, Sebastian Berhalter, Quinn Sullivan, Brian Gutiérrez and Damien Downs.

Yeah, I think the Canada game made it clear that if he can't physically bully opposing CBs, his touch isn't good enough to add much otherwise. But if it's a 26-man roster, and there's room for a 3rd forward, I wouldn't hate having him to come in late and bully opposing CBs when it's possible.

I'd probably pick him too. I'd go with Balogun as the presumptive starter and then Downs as the up-and-comer worth a look (who also happens to be a dual-nat).

I'm not really sure about the 3rd forward. I can see a case for Sargent as being the experienced, solid at everything but scoring, option. I can see a case for Agyemang/Vazquez as the big body to throw on late when you're looking for a goal option. And I can see a case for White as the career-MLSer on a heater who probably won't help in the WC but might help win a GC.
