The idea was that one or the other would go, not both. The poster I was responding too suggested they shouldn't both be a thing at once. I'm saying that dropping one or the other can be fine for the USA or MX but screws everyone else. Without the Gold Cup, USMNT has Nations League gams and can schedule big budget friendlies or invitationals during summers with its resources and pull that smaller nations in the region can't swing. Without Nations League, the USMNT keeps Gold Cups for competitive experience and can always draw big names for friendlies that smaller CONCACAF nations can't. USMNT can always win in a world without one or the other but there are 35+ other nations in the region that just can't, which is why we need both.
Those big budget friendlies aren't available like they used to be. Europe recently had the Nations League and World Cup qualifying being played simultaneously. Some UEFA teams have played 4 qualifying games and others 0. CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying started in September 2023 and doesn't finish until September 2025.
I did not see you posts in this thread but I, too, detest censorship. A while ago I was posting in a quite contentious thread and several of my posts disappeared. However they showed back up a day or so later. I think the reporting method used here will hide posts that get flagged for some reasons until a mod looks at it. Then the mods can either remove the flag or enforce it. That is fair. But I do think if a post gets hidden a message should get sent informing the poster as to what is happening. The mods seem to do it that way to reduce controversy but it actually has the inverse effect. Or, maybe, they hope any problems will just go away.
This honestly would've been an awesome game to go to, post up at that huge bar in the end zone and just get schwacked off Red Stripe and rum and coke. Maybe even bring a Bluetooth speaker and blast Bob Marley, I can't imagine anyone would bother to stop you.
Here's the thing about a private message board or forum. Mods can do wtf they like for any reason and if you don't like it, you have the option to leave. Moderation and censorship are two different things. The mods here seem very fair imho. I'm sure I've pushed the boundaries sometimes.
Moderation is fine but I agree with him that at least inform him that he did something wrong and you are removing it. OTOH I don't want to be a mod.
I get your point but my post were removed without explanation. I didn't swear, belittle, call names etc. I simply stated why I thought someone else took an action. The other posters had a different opinion which is great. I love respectful discussion. My post were removed theirs remain. I don't know what to call that other than censorship. As for telling me I can leave! Seriously do you want to remove everyone who has a differing opinion and create an echo chamber where only like opinions are allowed?
I don’t know what you wrote but if it was vaguely political, there you go. Let’s talk GC, that’s why this thread is here. Sorry if you’re hard done by it but I’d say just move on. If it truly upsets your apple cart, write to the mod. The mod might delete this post for overused cliches.
It is too late for any roster changes in this tournament. "A player listed on the Gold Cup final list may only be replaced in the event of serious injury or medical matter up until twenty-four (24) hours before the kick-off of its PMA’s first match and such replacement must come from the provisional list." https://www.concacaf.com/en/gold-cup/regulations/
"May be replaced in the event of a serious injury". This pertained to an injury. Seriousness is ambiguous. It's serious enough for him to be sent home.... TEAM NEWS: Haji Wright is dealing with an Achilles issue that will not be resolved in time for him to continue competing in the tournament. He will return to Coventry City for further evaluation and treatment. pic.twitter.com/TG6ddhEvwl— U.S. Soccer Men's National Team (@USMNT) June 21, 2025 Who do you think should replace him, if (likely) permitted? I said my opinion.
I think Atouk was focusing on the part that said replacements can only occur up to 24 hours prior to the member association's first match. We're past that point now.
Jeff Carlisle at ESPN has confirmed that he can't be replaced: "Tournament rules stipulate that Wright can't be replaced on the U.S. roster."
On the other hand, they changed the rules mid-tournament back in 2021 to allow for injury replacements in the knockout stages. So I suppose there's always a chance that happens again.
Canada held to a 1-1 draw, so they're not through yet I believe. They had 5 changes, which must've hurt, but Curacao was the better team most of the game.
I was shocked they overturned the first goal as well. Then the clear penalty ignored for an unknown reason. Should have finished 3-1 Cuarcao
That is yet another reason to detest the "Gold Cup." They do everything possible to make sure the biggest draw advances. In today's Canada match they (the ref) allowed Canada to get away with near murder and delayed to match to the point where what should have been a draw was handed again and again to Canada which stumbled and bumbled through the match. If Canada is really the "best" in CONCACAF then CONCACAF is doing all they can to keep them in that position. There is still a little time left in that match but it seems clear that the ref is pulling for them. He also allowed Guatemala to foul all over the field and ruined the match for neutrals. But this is CONCACAF so I guess I should be used to crap being spread all over the field. With the horrible refereeing the match is now tied. Curacao seems to be playing well and nearly had their second. But Canada seems to have paid more bribe money so the match ends up tied I really hope this fool does not referee any USA matches. He is going to get players hurt.
IDK if 3-1 would've been fair, but 1-1 was well-deserved. Until Larin rolled a shot into Room's hands 8 minutes into stoppage, they didn't have a shot on goal since the 36th minute. Ignoring the penalty was bad, that was a clear handball. The ref also never punished Canada for holding runners so often. The Curacao players were looking to get close to their marks, tap the ball back, then spin around and sprint behind. The Canadian defenders would just grab them with both hands, prevent them from moving, and it was almost never called. CONCACAF always tilts towards the big teams, so it's not a surprise they worked in Canada's favor today.
