How do you define "interesting matchups"? Honestly curious. MLS, for all it's many faults, has had honest-to-god rivalries that weren't manufactured by the league from the get-go.
The matchups are interesting to me. MLS Season Pass has glitched for me since the beginning. I just switched to USL.
Is there some directive given out by USL to bash MLS? Wynalda and all the ProRel people finally will have what they've been asking for years and it seems they are more concerned about bashing MLS, saying how insignificant the MLS season is, how there isn't any "compelling stories", how quality sucks (the irony lol) etc and etc. Is as if they aren't 100% sure ProRel is going to work so they have to do everything possible to discredit MLS to hype up USL. If ProRel is as good as everyone says it is and it will put MLS out of business why are they so concerned about MLS? Instead of asking the right questions as to which USL teams will be the 12-14 that will start in D1 and if they will meet the requirements by 2028 they decide to spend their time bashing everything about MLS.
USL does not need to give a directive for those people to bash MLS. They do it all on their own. USL's decision(s) have just given them fuel to add to that hate bonfire they already have.
Once you start believing in a conspiracy theory, you will ignore evidence to the contrary, or see conspiracy theories within the conspiracy theory to keep it going. Ben Fast (and the other prolies) have spent coming up on 20 years saying that pro/rel is some sort of magic sauce and that MLS and USSF are conspiring to stop it from happening in the US. Having USL start pro/rel throws that conspiracy in to turmoil. Now that it may be coming, the need to lay the ground work for an excuse if it fails. They’ll now be in a position to say “I told you so!” if it succeeds, or “Of course it failed! It wasn’t pro/rel that failed, it was MLS and USSF conspiring that killed pro/rel!”
I really hope USL is successful in this endeavor. If USL isn;t as successful as some believe they'll be it sure won't be because of MLS. It may be because of US Soccer, mainly due to the fact that the USSF is largely directionless. They're also not very competent. The Fed isn't close to the NCAA in incompetence, but they're not exactly the NFL or the NBA either. In all honesty if USL fails, it's going to be because the USL screwed up. If this thing starts to go sideways, or promotion/relegation isn't the differentiator they believe it is, there will be owners looking to get out. Some will even look to get into MLS. Just like the NASL owners jumped at the first opportunity to join the USL back in 2018. At the end of the day these are all business men and women. They all like to make money. One thing that they don't like, is losing money. The fastest way to lose millions of dollars is to own a Pro Sports team......
MLS has no history but usl does it was here before MLS. With pro/rel it will have more interesting and relatable story lines then MLS. MLS is owned by few nfl owners and conmish was old nfl head so they want to promote or keep down sport nfl way. Most euro people or world wide people would be bored by MLS story lines or manufactured rivalries. People want something concrete and what would give people bigger rivalries and Bragging rights then pro/rel if team goes up and get into champions or good team fighting relegation
MLS has decade’s worth of history, that’s not an issue. The first set of teams promoted or relegated in USL will make headlines but after that the concept will likely draw the same attention that playoff races already get. After a few years I could easily see pro/rel being suspended in order to stabilize the league.
i think it would go other way because even americans talk more about epl prelegation and championship promotion more then mls play offs. messi looses play off round nobody blinks an eye because it is really not that interesting play of playing 3 games or so on
There's been some US players talking about how ProRel just makes everyone better etc and etc. I wonder if players like Tyler Adams, who mentioned it just recently, will put his money where his mouth is and join USL once he decides to come back to US. Or will he forget about the comments he made (like Reggie Cannon did) and come to MLS for bigger pay day?
In the U.S. I hear a little bit about pro/rel in England, and I pretty much never hear anything about pro/rel as it relates to Italy, Spain, and Germany. I’m convinced all the posers like pontificating about the concept far more than they do the actual teams and games it affects.
MLS has 30 years of history. I say this because I have switched to USL because of the glitchiness of MLS Season Pass on Apple TV Plus.
Except, when he returns to the US, he's not going to be looking to get better, he's going to be looking to extend. his career. Might as well grab that SUM supplied bag if he can...
Lol is there any debate who will win playoff series in MLS not at ALL nobody cares and Americans try to spin that like we don't care. Lol
He’ll chase the money like he does now. Before joining the team very unlikely Adams ever game much thought to the legacy of Bournemouth and its movement through divisions over the years.
You don't think they'll let him Bradley for a few years? The window for showing up in dead ball situations and actling like a hard man seems much longer...
I think it can be read as "The Premier League/Championship captured the casual fan that MLS desperately wanted to capture. The number of Italian soccer fans/casuals interested in Italian soccer below teams that have USMNT players is probably smaller than the number of MLS fans OR they don't engage much with MLS fans on social media." I'm still here though, waiting for Poch to give Novakovich his big break
