Katie McInerney 7h • Something special is happening in Maine. On Tuesday, Portland Hearts of Pine, the USL League One soccer club that has taken the Pine Tree State by storm over the last 18 months, announced plans to build a 9,000-11,000 seat stadium in the city. Since the men’s team debuted last spring, the Hearts of Pine have sold out every home game at Fitzpatrick Stadium. With around 8,000 more supporters on the waitlist and a women's team set to begin play next year, expansion to a permanent home came around even faster than expected. “It’s a little humbling, just how far we’ve come in such a short period of time," Gabe Hoffman-Johnson told Boston Globe Media.
