After a scintillating display in Washington DC, the next stop for the U.S. in its pre-Gold Cup tour is a match against Venezuela on the turf of Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati, OH. Christian Pulisic should be available to play as he enters U.S. camp, but Tyler Adams will remain unavailable. Questions still remain in my mind about the status of Aaron Long, Michael Bradley, Jordan Morris, and Gyasi Zardes, as they are all recovering from small injuries.
"Questions still remain in my mind ..." Suggesting a new theme song, perhaps? How about, "I've got questions on my mind," sung to the tune of "You were always on my mind." Pretty much would write itself. I'll do the honors tomorrow if no one else cares to tackle it first.
They are playing a warm up match on TURF the week before a major tournament? Over under on injuries? 1.5 ?
We must have the only federation either dumb or greedy enough to put our own players on turf right before a "major" tournament. I can't believe that Venezuela agreed to playing on turf prior to the Copa. As a low key 5 stripes fan, I'm hoping Josef is held out of the game.
A reasonable lineup with the players in the squad... Altidore Boyd..Holmes Pulisic..McKennie Adams Ream..Miazga..Long..Lima Steffan Something more along the lines of what Berhalter will do... Altidore Boyd..Arriola Pulisic..McKennie Bradley Ream..Miazga..Long..Adams Steffan We'll sacrifice midfield defense and push Adams aside for Bradley, Arriola seems a lock no matter how many games he plays while producing nothing, and even though Holmes looked like our most aggressive player and is an attacker by trade, he'll leave him in midfield where he's squeezed out by other players. All boneheaded decisions and all are almost sure things. I wouldn't be shocked if Zardes started up top as well.... and Bradley/Trapp is really a pick 'em situation, but you gotta think Berhalter swaps out Trapp after the Jamaica game.
What about "Tyler Adams will be unavailable" does Nobody not understand? Anyways, what are we going to learn playing Venezuela that we don't know already? That Berhalter can't coach even vs national teams failing to qualify for the WC and finishing last in a federation vastly superior to ours? Not worth watching.
Maybe I didn't pick them Quite as thoughtfully as I could have And maybe I didn't coach them Quite as skillfully as I should have If I made them look second best Fans, I'm sorry I was blind Trapp was always on my mind Trapp was always on my mind
Oops, forget we're still waiting on Adams. How about Pulisic and McKennie? They going to be in for Venezuela? I keep seeing articles that just give the Gold Cup roster and say its the same for the friendly.
Must apologize. Can't really find whether Adams is ready or not. May have taken another poster's statement too seriously. Like with Trump's BS, facts are needed.
Game will be shit. Venezuela is a shit side, almost as bad as Jamaica. If we win, it's not much of a measuring stick. If we look like we did the other night, it's bad. Sorry- bad attitude.
I can't believe Venezuela is sending their team to the United States when it must be tempting for a few of them to be "late" for their flight back to Caracas..
Pulisic came in to the US on Tuesday from what I read, and is available after joining camp yesterday. Tyler Adams will not join up until the 11th, so he will not be available. No word Ive seen on McKinnie. Berhalter confirms that @cpulisic_10 will join the #USMNT on June 6, with @tyler_adams14 arriving in camp on June 11.— U.S. Soccer Men's National Team (@USMNT) June 4, 2019
I'm pretty sure there's an American Pickers on at that time. Or, maybe Counting Cars. I pity the poor people who've already bought tickets. Except the Venezuela fans. It's all the same money to the Fed.
4 of the Venezuelan boys play in the MLS , Josef Martinez is one of them. The rest plays in Europe and another little plays in South America, only two of them are in e Venezuelan league. I send you a link on the roster so you can see where they play and see if they really would be tempted to be "late" for their flight to Caracas.( By the way they will fly directly to Brazil to participate in Copa America 2019). These players may come from a devastated country but I assure it is not the Cuban team . https://www.atlutd.com/post/2019/06/06/josef-martinez-named-venezuela-s-copa-america-roster
It is refreshing to see ignorance about Venezuelan athletes being countered with ignorance about Cuban athletes. Next round of cheap shots is on the house. Regarding this match, let us hope that Berhalter sticks with 4 in the back for 90 minutes. Time to get serious on defense for Gold Cup.
i just hope we only use players who are actually eligible to play in the gc (no offense to yueill as a player).
That's merely a mitigating factor. The foundation is still hard, the temporary surface has sections, and is prone to falling apart. The primary motive is indeed monetary. This is reportedly the best selling match they've had this year. So they'll take more chances in the interim as a result.
Normally I'd say "practice for CONCACAF" but this will be the first Gold Cup in a long time where we won't have to play on a temporary grass surface. The one in Arlington last time around was supposedly like playing on fuzzy concrete.
