Can you post the X-Twitter account for the "tweet", then we can find it if the BigSoccer link fails and says it's "not a valid tweet id"? ***

Moderators, Super-Mods (calling @Ismitje @dark knight !!!), can someone look into why the X-Twitter links aren't working (or aren't working reliably). I suspect it has to do with code condensing the "tweet" ID to only the identification number and discarding the account name that posted it

Hayes made a believer out of me today. Not sure the last time I witnessed a coach restructure a team at half time into a win.

Shaw can not be a 9. Nightswonger can't play against bigger wingers, Rose is not a striker or a winger, keep her in the midfield. Thompson exposed a Neatherlander weakness, speed kills. Chippy game, loved the hockey rules out there. Shocked USWNT pulled that game out.

 

I am using Chrome and I too have noticed that numerous tweet links report that the tweet ID is not a valid tweet. But I have found that if i refresh the screen a couple of times the tweet suddenly appear and seems to work fine. I never actually follow tweet links but, after the afore mentioned refresh or two. I do see the basic part of the tweet and the warning about "invalid tweet ID" disappears.
I have no idea why it happens like that but it does.

I actually would much prefer that links to antisocial apps like X were not allowed. But I am sure I am in the minority about that.

 

The "invalid tweet" issue is likely a Twitter issue. It's very similar to what happens when they have an outage.

 

I’d sooner attribute it to Emma’s halftime coaching than Neaher’s “veteran move” (GK feigning injury about 30 mins in) They may start doing something about that soon, it kinda messes game decorum and makes it look CONCACAFey—-I know Donovan was ticked off about it on his short NWSL stint.

 

Agree with the above - We have a coach that's capable of 'on the fly' adjustments and not afraid to hurt anyones feelings by subbing them out when they are not up to the task.

Horan is the player that bothers me - she is just not able to play high up the pitch as she has been used for years on the USWNT. She could/should be tried at one of the double pivots - neither Albert or Coffey really impressed - though maybe I still miss Ertz...

Play Rose as the 10, with the Expresso 3 and sit back and enjoy. Ryan and Yohannes will work their way into becoming regulars, though Nighswonger seems to be a winger and not a LB. Kruger looks like a LB for the not too distant future. I like Fox on the other side.

And I have yet to see who we are going to play next to Girma. Davidson was 'meh'. And the next GK discussion on the air didn't leave me with any warm and fuzzy feelings about who plays GK going forward. But there is some time to work these things out.

 

One possible "fix" would be a change in the substitution laws related to injury treatment on the field. Make it so that if a GK is injured and treated on the field she/he must leave the field and may be temporarily subbed by another GK and then allowed to reenter when the next natural sub break happens.
I actually would prefer the GK to be a mandatory leaving of the field on injury and only allowed back on if he/she is NOT subbed. Of course a field player could don a GK jersey temporarily and play with all the privileges of the GK but then they would have to leave the field when the GK comes back in to remove the jersey unless they just striped it off during play. But, if the jersey is removed during play and it is dropped on the field then it should be a yellow card.
Obviously the details would need to be worked out to cover all the attempted cheats there might be.

I do not present this as a fully thought out idea but just as a starting point. As much as i LOVED the privileges I gained as a 'keeper I have always thought the GKs are too protected in many ways. The ability to be treated on the field and not having to leave the field is just one way the protections are too much.

Of course if the GK is actually injured and must be subbed then the current rule applies.
Legitimate injuries vs the many fakes are a problem in soccer and could be "fixed" by setting a minimum time a treated player must remain out. Set it at about 2-3 full minutes (the time can be kept by the fourth official) and just watch the number of fake injuries go WAY down quickly.
Referees can also solve the field player problem by simply not allowing the "injured" player back on for 2-3 minutes.

I know this has about zero chance of happening but I believe something must be done to stop all the fake injuries that players use for breaking up the game.

I also think that injured player that need treatment on the field, except for head injuries, should be immanently stretchered off and treated off the field. By doing that the fakes will also go way down quickly.

I know this will sometimes punish innocent players but, again except for head/neck injuries, the vast majority of injuries are not really serious enough for "on field" treatment. Just think about how many times we've seen a player go down looking like they will never walk again but the grab an area of the body that was not even touched.

I though Naeher did a "smart" thing by going down when she did but "smart" does not equal "sportsmanlike" and should be punished.

 

Soccer is a game in which it is not all that unusual to lose games you should win and win games you should lose. This was one of those...

Thought Rose and Horan and Davidson played well. That the halftime subs were precisely the one's I was calling for-- Nighswonger was not having a good day and Shaw was just getting outrun constantly. Thought Albert looked a little lost much of the time also.

 

Agree. This goalkeeper feigning injuries has gotten ridiculous. It is so common now in the NWSL and overseas. The Olympics were absurd, especially with the Brazil goalkeeper. Something must be done to eliminate this.

Thoughts: very 442/424 to me in the first half. With Shaw & Horan up top, Rose & Ryan wide. Shaw/Horan would sometimes drop into CM, but not often. For long stretches, we effectively had 2 in CM (pressing with 4 up top) and it showed.

I get Hayes searching/trying things with Mal/Smith/Trinity out, but we looked overwhelmed in MF and lacking a real CF presence at the same time.

Nighswonger got beat like 5-6 times. Drivnled through and for strength. Worst showing I have seen from her. I hope Krueger & Dunn stick around for a bit. Yikes. Hayes got her off at half.

Other than Naeher, no one looked great. Albert beat on the goal, but even Girma got beat on a set piece. Lucky we did not concede two or three more.

Williams as an out and out 9 pushed Horan back into MF more often, and with Sonnett in, we could also play 3 in the back in possession (Sonnett, Girma, Davidson) allowing Fox to also help in MF.

Hayes deserves credit, for not only willing to try things and allow us to get confortable in different shapes, but also a willingness to change when necessary. We also have a lot of versatile players (Davidson, Horan, Shaw, Lavelle, etc). It helps.

 

Looked very 343 after the 2nd batch of subs. With Fox, Hershfelt, Coffey, and Thompson in MF. Yohannes up top with Williams & Ryan.

 

Yeah maybe that was clunky wording on my part as I'm pretty much in agreement. I wasn't trying to validate it as much as I was pointing out that it likely helped keep the game within reach. It came at a point in the game where they were leaking water faster than they could bail. Like it for not, it may have saved the game for them.

As far as Emma, she's pretty impressive. When she's done with this gig, and if she ever had the desire, I'd love to see how she could do in a top 4 league on the men's side. If anyone could do it, it would be her.

 

Short term, this team is gonna miss Naeher. She is the best GK we have and one of the best in the world.

While I think she fully deserves being celebrated, both for her career and her decision, I am not necessarily celebrating what the decision means for the team atm. If you get the distinction.

I wouldn't write off Rose as a winger yet. She looked better on the other side vs. England.
Ya, Hayes did a total triage job at the half and made it work. Really, before the half. At some point, she got Nighswonger off the back line, and upfield. We were totally outnumbered in the mf, and moving Nighswonger up helped. Plus, Nighswonger couldn't handle that young NL winger. At all. It was very impressive that she was basically shut down after the re-watch. Gotta give a lot of credit to Tierna? I assume it was Tierna that picked her up?

When I rewatch, I'm going to be watching the dynamic between Fox and Nighswonger. Before these matches, Emma had (from my POV) really been playing with 3 in the back, and either Nighswonger or Fox as more of a mf. (She did this in the WC, too, w/ Dunn being more advanced). But, in these games, until we were getting overrun by NL, it looked more like a conventional 433.

Or goal was terrific. Lily headed the ball wide to Ryan. And, Ryan played a great ball in to Williams. And, Williams made a great fun with a nice finish. If we're looking for big reveals for players out of these matches, ya gotta go with Ryan. She could use a little seasoning maybe, but to me, if one of the TE is not 100% fit, I'd be quite happy to see Yazmeen.

 

Also: Happy for Naeher that she went out with such an incredible match. For me, she is our best GK ever.

 

Imo, we basically played 3 in the back at the Olympics. More of a 3-5-2. To me, Dunn and Rodman's roles weren't much different in the Oly's.

 

Regarding the LB situation. Nighswonger just can't be a LB. She can be a LM w/ some defensive responsibility, but she is not a LB. If we need an LB, for now Kreuger is a great choice. If we need a LCB, Tierna does great there. And, I'd like to see Malonson given some time at LCB. From what little I've seen of her in NWSL, she's a fine defender. She went toe to toe with a not-quite-fit Trinity in the playoffs, anyway.

I'm good with Nighswonger in that left mid role, in what a 3-5-2 (if the RW is playing more reserved like Trinity did on the Olympics) or 3-4-3. She's very skilled and often causes chaos for the other team.

 

I agree on Nighswonger as a LB, she seemed over her head by a lot. Although I too saw Yohannes' part in the Williams goal, I thought she otherwise did not perform well. It is possible she was really nervous.

 

Agreed. Maybe nerve. And the whole group was a mishmash. A bunch of people who have hardly played together. I try not to make negative judgments about players that are new to the team until about their 3rd match with the team. Even that is a bit early. It takes a bit for teammates to figure each other out.
