you don't get it do you?

it's not sam's army... that's what the locals do

creative things pretty much don't work... it's gotta stick to the k.i.s.s. system to work with more than 5 people... it's not rocket science here

and i could care less if it sounds good on tv... it's all about making noise at the stadium... which means creativity doesn't count for jack... volume does

and if you noticed... that was loud... meaning we were doing objective number one

national games draw from all over... look at how many came from dc and chicago... we aren't crew fans... so it's gotta stick to simple

hell, it's gotta stick to simple at mls games as well... but at least at mls games, you often have a chance to do some experimenting

Look, what you guys really need to do with this is learn enough Spanish to curse the keepers in that language, because that won't offend clueless Americans, and 4 of our 5 opponents in the Hex will speak Spanish. (If the T&T home game is close enough to need that sort of chant, then we're in big trouble.)

I called that faker El Sal keeper every name under the sun, including his mother's C, but I did it in his language and he actually gestured toward some of us a couple times, so I knew we were in his head to some degree.

well, I suppose you've got to crawl before you can walk, so loud first, then maybe creative second. I think too many US sports use the overspeaker too much, except for college, where you still hear some funny stuff. I hate PA crap at MLS games and I hope they don't use it for the Nats (I must say I'm annoyed that there is almost never a game within 700 miles of here, let alone a qualifier). I'd rather have silence than Bon Jovi blasting over the sound system. Anyway, I'm not looking for Mozart, just maybe something either funny or with rhythm.

that was the first time i was in crew stadium and didn't hear the pa's much

    i was quite happy

mls cup had tons of pa's... the fire games i've been there for.. tons of pa's

    which was great
but not this one... the only things i recall are subs, cards, goals, and halftime

If the YSA chant bothers you, pretend we're saying "You suck at goal." (BTW, if you were at the game and heard me tell that story, that was me telling that story...) It's a tradition. If you don't like it, come to the match and bring enough friends to drown us out with your own chant.

Also, I would agree that chanting "Red and black, just like the Nazis" at the refs was a lot more childish than the YSA chant.

Good call Andy. When I got home from the game and watched the tape I noticed the same thing. At one point I even heard my distinct voice proclaiming my love for the grown ass man. At games like this (small crowd, etc) we have a tremendous opportunity to be heard. Let's keep the chants going, keep them loud, keep them organized and keep them classy.

Also, I wish we could have gotten the grown ass man chant going, especially after his score.

Last, thanks to all that came by the WCX (US and Jam supporters). It was great getting soused and soaked with you all. See you at the next match.

If you think CCS has it bad, try going to RFK. I mean, plug your ears in advance, kiddo.

Why is everyone complaining about a few chants? I don't think I chanted one I didn't like.

No, no you've got it all wrong. We were saying "you suck at goal." Here in the Red state of Ohio we would never call someone an a--hole. Here's proof: How many people from Cincinnati does it take to screw in a light bulb? Just one, but please don't say "screw."

uh, yeah! Even in RFK depending upon where you sit there are different levels of volume and acceptable language mores. In the quiet section (behind the benches) - you more apt to hear screams for Adu. If you drift over to La Norte (the northside) you will be seranaded with Spanish "ditties", pounded by La Bomba and covered with confetti. If you come into the Barra or the Nest, you should expect more "raucous" language and chants.

hmm... ability to control what you chant..... that's a novel idea  . So let me understand this, if you don't like a chant you don't participate. Wow! The next step is start chants that you do like.

This is the whole problem when the lack of continuity in SA supporters varies widely between games. Chants and songs aren't known. If you don't know a song, ask the person who is singing it. I still have problems with some of the Spanish songs (at RFK).

<note to Chelsey - I meant the chant paragraph to be tongue-in-cheek and not in any way an attack on you. Because I agree with you. Apologies if I was unsuccessful in conveying this - end Note>

For what it's worth, I stood a section over from La Norte in June.

As for chants, I was just trying to back that I thought basically all the chants were good. OK, a few of them were a bit weak, but not the one's people have been dismissing as "in bad taste".

I agree, continuation of chants in the SA section could use a lifeline. That's one of the main reason's I love anything with USA or OLE in it, because almost everyone knows the words...:D

It was a couple of college-age guys in front of me (near the back). That was pretty hilarious.

Being near the back, I couldn't even hear some of the chants...either that or there just weren't any for an extended period of time, especially during the second half. I started several in the second half because I got tired of just standing around without yelling, singing, jumping, etc. The YSA chant had the only (I think) Jamaican standing next to me laughing every time it was yelled. I don't know if he was laughing at the chant or laughing at the foolishness of it.

I think this might eventually come back to hurt us. Maybe, maybe not. We'll always have first or second timers in the group. That's a good thing.

But for the people who've been there countless times before, some of us want something a little more than the "U-S-A" repeated ad-nauseum. You can only chant "U-S-A" so many times before it gets old. Especially when it's done anytime the USA gathers (hockey, soccer, olympics, presidential gatherings...)

I'm gonna wager part of why you didn't hear it was because the only speakers are at the south end. Being at the north end, in the middle of everyone, the PA will naturally be drowned out.

Plus at Crew games, you get a lot of announcements for sponsors and other stuff. At national games, I think the only announcements are the standard "welcome to ccs" one at the beginning and the standard soccer ones (goals, subs, stoppage time, etc.)

you simply cannot do creativity at national games... it's utterly stupid

there aren't enough games where everyone goes to... to even attempt it

the only route is trying to be creative at mls games and carrying it over

it won't work the other way

I heard a couple that involved singing, which is great, but I could neither hear the words nor knew the words. I'm all for creative cheers other than U-S-A, but without more guidance on what is being cheered, those who aren't familiar are left looking dumbfounded and it is hard for them to actively participate.

    I like it too.

If it wasn't for that chant, I'm pretty sure my girlfriend and I would have fallen asleep where we stood in Sam's Army. I don't care what anyone on here says, that was a QUIET time we had in Columbus Wednesday night.

Nice work on the pix! Thanks for posting them for everyone to see. My wife will be happy that people will be able to see her Donovan sign she spent some time on that I placed in the wrong area to be seen. I'll know better next time.

On the You Suck A__ issue, maybe I'm just easy going, but I thought it was funny when whoever started it first did it, so I participated the following times. But I thought it was REALLY funny when I got home and watched the game on Tivo and heard it again! GOD that was FUNNY! But I'm a reasonable guy and I can see how some people could be offended by it.

This reminds me of a true story...
While with the Section 8 in KC during the Open Cup final, a Fire fan was asked to follow the security guards out of the seating area because he was being accused of cussing by some uptight KC residents. Funny story is that he thought he was getting kicked out of the game unjustly, so he decided to pull his pants down on his way up the stairs. While this was quite funny, the act actually did get him kicked out of the game. The guards said they were just going to "talk" to him, but were left with no choice but to eject him after he exposed the evening moon. The point of the story is that he was only accused of cussing, and I was standing five feet from him and he never did anything other than sing with everyone else. He was just closest to the upset people. Some people are just easily offended.

Needless to say several Wiz faithful who witnessed the occurrence apologized for the behavior of the jerks who seemingly got our comrade ejected, and used quite explicit language to describe said jerks. Now that's class. Respect.

Another individual in this thread committed to going to every WC Qualifier in '05. I too would like to echo this commitment! My bass drum now belongs to Sam's Army! We will have more drums at future games and we will be more organized and we will be the 12th man for Arena's boys!

He had been warned, bogusly, for swearing prior to this. Thus when asked to follow security he was sure he was getting the boot.
