Obviously, the only thing us hardcore types can do is to keep supporting the USWNT and WUSA until other countries decide that women's soccer is a great thing and decide to make the same changes, both structurally and socially, that's led to the success of our USWNT.

I think I saw an inkling of this in the Gold Cup matches in Seattle. Sure, it was a pro-US crowd there ... but there were plenty of people there to support the Mexican women. Normally, I loathe and despise Mexican soccer -- but it pleased me greatly to see the Mexican flags being waved that night. I wasn't the only one who wondered if they got more support here than at home.

OK. I'll shut up and watch the game now.

Yeah...and there were a couple of yellows. But only about a minute of stoppage, right?

    Halftime subs?

OK, Ape said there'd be three subs at halftime. She mentioned a goalkeeper switch (gee, who would have seen THAT coming?), one in the midfield, and one up top.

I'm thinking that we'll see O'Reilly come on for Parlow, because Parlow's got the card and Iceland is hacking her all over the place. No point in risking her pick up a second yellow out of frustration.

As for the midfield switch, I'm not sure who Ape will take off, but I'm thinking she'll put on one of the youngsters (Hawkins or Tarpley).

Clive Charles with that '70s look!

Man I remember watching him at Civic Stadium (now PGE Park) way back in the 1970s. I'm glad he's getting better.

I was there too and the Mexican supporters were much more passionate about their team than we were about ours. I saw signs supporting the entire team. Not some glitter'd up crap proclaiming their love for Millie or Mia or Chastain .

    Re: Halftime subs?

I think you're right. I think Hucles will be coming out, she's been very ineffective. Don't know who'll they put in.

I wouldn't be too suprised to see foudy come out and Hawkings go in.

Yes they were. Especially the second.

Didn't anybody tell ESPN that the JFA pulled out of that friendly in March?

damn, that boca header was sweet, talk about some power behind that thing...

hell so was klein's blast from 20 yards out on a volley...

and even onandi's free kick was a laser.

Either that or we reassured the Japanese of their safety in traveling over here.

    The second half has started.

    Subs: Mullinix for Beene
    Tapley for Hucles
    and O'reilly for parlow.

Somebody needs to tell the JFA that we got rid of Paul Schell here in Seattle.

    --------------------------------------

Dang. I am going to have to go catch a match in Charleston sometime just for that pub.

    ---------------------------------------

Boca's header -- it still looks like an accident on the replay, IMVHO.

    ---------------------------------------

Mullinix in for Beene, to stay on-topic. :)

Was it a flashback shot to him in the 70's, or is he having some big hair right now?

48' US throw in at the corner flag, nada

49' ISL actually applying some pressure. Long ball sent in, but Siri handled it with no problem.

Flashback shot. Artificial turf at Civic Stadium, and the Julius Erving 'do. I can almost hear the plastic horns.

Nice shot just over the crossbar. Tarpley?

52' Tarply shoots, and skims it off the bar.

53' Sobs is playing on the right now?

53' Wagner gets a great ball from lilly takes a nice shot but gk pushes it over the crossbar. Nothing from the resulting corner.

Wagner's shot tipped over the crossbar. Sloppy play on the corner ... um, guys? That white round thing on the ground? You kick it. You don't just run past it.

no, he compared wagner to reyna...

honestly, if we had a player of the caliber of wagner <comparitivly speaking - entire mens game to entire womens game> on the mens team we would be very, very lucky...

wagner is a better #10 in the womens game than any #10 the us men have produced.

I think he was comparing Wagner and Reyna *shrug*

Definitely looks like pearce is playing central defender now, with sobs out right.

55' Wagner gets a corner, they take it short and hamm sends it into the box, a poor left footed cross from BC goes out.

56' Offsides on ISL. I think we found Prinz's brother
