But what if Michael Jordan suddenly got recruited for Costa Rica? I mean he's still got soccer eligibility for any country he wants. :)

Aren't us Yanks just a barrel of laughs, Tico_Sapri?

I think neither team travels particularly well, although the U.S. is getting better. But we haven't improved to the point of going to Costa Rica and getting points.

    Gold Cup:
    US 2, CR 1

    WCQ:
CR 2, US 0 (especially if the US had already qualified of course)

Yea, quite an A/B team...

We were only missing Gibbs, Bocanegra, Onyewu, Pope, Reyna, Mastroeni, Lewis, McBride, Johnson. Practically our whole starting eleven -- minus Beasley and Donovan who only played about 25 minutes each.

Eddie Johnson is the biggest missing link right now by far. You'll notice how many finishing chances the United States has missed in this tourney, right? Those are the kind of shots the EJ gets in the back in the net. For that matter Lewis and Reyna are important to get the ball through the middle. Beasley and Landon have both had to be played out of position this tourney because they're missing.

You are right that as far as the Gold Cup is concerned, Keller, Beasley, and Donovan are the whole team though, I'll give you that.

    0-0

    Snore.

Neither team was very motivated - both already in the quarters, a good chance we'll meet again in the semis, a WCQ match coming up, I think neither coach was interested in showing to much of his hand so to speak. 3 4-team groups being wittled down to 8 knockout teams should ensure most games are interesting, but occasionally you'll end up with one of these, hopefully the US and CRC will see each other on 07/21/2005 and that will be the real show.

I'm quite pleased to see refs booking players for diving I think it is long overdue and it is a trend that I think is a good one. However, it didn't seem like either Bolanas or Hejduk were diving, I wonder what everyone else thinks.

Well, it wasnt very intereting, he lost his mind in the last 15 minutes of the game, when CR was about to score

I agree with you in everything, boring game, both teams were already qualidfied, US-CR might play again in the final...
I feel that CR did a little bit more to win the game, but it wasn't enough.

So you are saying those players are better then Gibbs, Bocanegra, Onyewu, Pope, Reyna, Mastroeni, Lewis, McBride, and Johnson? Pretty hilarious stuff. Martinez is good, but Wanchope is healthy one month out of the year and changes teams more then Ruiz changes his underwear.

Both teams were missing a number of players, more for the States though. What do you Tico's think about the play of Brenes (Cheeky?Chiky? Which is it?). I thought he looked solid and I've been sold on Bolanos as the next Tico star for a while now. Kid has some moves, although still needs some work. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in Europe at some point.

All that said, Costa Ricas play has improved under Guima and they are now the definate 3rd team in CONCACAF.

Ticos had a HUGE amount of support at this game. it seemed like it was 2/3 of the crowd. they provided great atmosphere.

too bad the game itself was just OK.
