Pu Wei being treated. Ref looked as if she was reaching for a card but then held off. (Wambach's playing with a yellow.)
Goal straight off the free kick by Lilly, nobody touched it. Looks like China needs to go shopping for a keeper - that's two goals that shouldn't have happened. Lilly scores again, chips keeper on a left-footed finish, off crossbar and in.
I am surprised at the bad goalkeeping we have seen not just in this match but in a number of them. What is going on? I don't want to have the Olympics and WWC decided on crappy keeping.
US looked pretty good. China let down by their keeper and by a poor call on that PK - could easily have been 1-1. Another look at Lilly's goal to make it 4-1: beats defender, then makes a perfect chip. Any higher, it bounces off the crossbar, any lower and the keeper has it.
Thought it was a very useful game for both sides. First 2/3 of match was pretty; after that, shambolic, although very nice finish from Lilly on the last goal. We were able to see some of the more technical aspects of the US game and players and we saw that there are players capable of finesse who are good with their feet. I thought the defense a little suspect--poor communication on the China goal--and, in general, they didn't fully gel. Not sure who to pin it on though.
Not a very impressive game to me. LePeilbet gave up the first goal being out of position. We got a PK's on weak calls and a goal by Lilly unassisted to finish it off 4-1. I nominate Wagner for most give-aways.
Was Wagner's speed of play up to the midfield pressure? She seems to have improved in that regard lately, and this sounds like a good test game.
