Chalupny makes great play running well across field to disrupt a Chinese attack coming up their right flank, but then loses the ball. Comes back to defend, #13 from China dives, ref ignores.
71- good build up by China, but cross right to Scurry. Julie talking about Sun Wen, and how knee injury could mean retirement.
Foudy noting that Wagner did a good job on PK, opening up her hips to look as if she were hitting it right and actually hitting it left - keeper was completely fooled, would have had an easy save if she'd just stayed put.
I like watching this sort of game so much more than say Canada or Norway with the long ball strategy. We can see some good technical skills here with players holding possession in tight spaces, etc. Even though I think both the US goals were cheap, China isn't looking as dangerous as the US so the scoreline wouldn't be unfair if it ended this way. China, in particular, can't make that vital threatening pass into the final third (except for their goal). Kai on for Lloyd. Tarpley, presumably will drop into midfield.
100% agree. The pace has dropped a little in the second half, but first half was best of any U.S. games this year.
79- That cross wasn't good. There was a China player running free in the middle. Possession ends with open shot, but right at Scurry.
