Okay, the wife and I were planning on attending the June 21 game versus Chicago, but then I realized that the US Nats will be playing Brazil at 2 PM that day (televised on Telefutura--channel 830 on Dish Network, which I comes in free for those who subscribe to America's Top 150). So, here's the question: is there going to be a watch party? I would prefer to watch the game in the Pavillion at Arrowhead, but I would also go to a bar as long as I know they'll gladly be showing the game and other people plan on attending. If anyone knows the scoop, please post it here.
http://www.thecasbah.org/spanish-english.html dont forget to go to the site above if you are going to be watching the confed cup. It has a list of commonly used words in soccer games in spanish so you can understand the games better
I brought this up in a thread not long ago. I email Curt Johnson with the question. He said the Wizards had already thought about this and were looking into it. The problem is that this game vs. Brazil is the USA's only game on Telefutura (the other two are on Galavision). Curt didnt think they could get Telefutura with the package they have, as is the same with many people around the country that arent in huge TV markets. I'll email him and let you all know what he says.
Looks like no chance of seeing the US/Brazil game. That sure sucks, I wanted to see this game. I'm not even sure if Telefutura is available in KC. I know its not available in St. Louis.
USA vs. Brazil 2 PM Wizards vs. Fire 7 PM That brings up an interesting scenario. We need to start looking for a place, any place, in the KC area that has Telefutura and will be showing the game live. If we saw the game at 2 it would be over by 4 and we could all be at the game by 5. We could eliminate the tailgate and relocate it to whatever fine establishment would host us. Now.....can we get the damn spanish channel anywhere in KC?
From the univision.com website No Cable Satélite TeleFutura está disponible actualmente vía satélite en ciertas zonas como parte del paquete local de DIRECTV. Para suscribirte, por favor llama al 1-888-388-6622 (en español). Rough translation: TeleFutura is available via DirecTV. Call the number to subscribe. Does Coach's have DirecTV? That would probably be our best option...
So could they get the other games though? I wouldnt even care if I missed the Brazil game, just as long as i could see others...
If people want to read all about this go visit the USA forum. There are about 100 threads, so I'll sum it up.... Game 1 on Galavision Game 2 on Telefutura Game 3 on Galavision Now, I've got DirecTV with the Total Choice, Sports Pack and HBO. I get Univision and Galavision. I do not get Telemundo or Telefutura. You can get Telefutura one of two ways.... 1) Buy some special spanish speaking package from DirecTV, just so you can watch ONE game 2) Live in a huge TV market where there are loads of hispanics (DC, NY, LA, etc.) Neither of these seems possible. But it does seem possible that a bar, a Mexican bar, would have the spanish DirecTV package and wouldnt mind a little extra business on a Saturday afternoon.
My wife and I will be in town for the game as well; staying at the downtown Marriot. The girl I just talked to at the Marriot bar said maybe try Tanner's or The Quaff , which are near the hotel. Anyone know if they might be an option? If so, I'll be there!
Re: Re: USA vs Brazil Watch Party: June 21 ??? i'd be 99.9% sure that tanner's isn't going to have it, let alone show it if they did. the quaff? uhhh, i must not be going out as much as i used to. i've never heard of that place. of course, i'm not very hip to the downtown scene. sometimes, i don't understand why i even bother to write anything. i KNOW i've been a HUGE help cisco. *sigh*
Re: Re: Re: USA vs Brazil Watch Party: June 21 ??? There's a downtown scene? But, seriously...The Quaff is a little futher south on Broadway than Tanner's. Like, a block and a half, same side of the street. At least, I think that's where it is. All of this is pointless, as neither of those places will have it. Try calling any of the Mexican places on Southwest Boulevard. Taqueria Mexico has been good to us in the past; I'm sure they have Galavision, far less sure they have TeleFutura.
Re: Re: Re: Re: USA vs Brazil Watch Party: June 21 ??? which probably makes it hard for me to be hip to it.
I talked with a guy last night at my pick up game that said DishNet just added Telefutura to his package at the end of May. Keep in mind that is St. Louis, but if they added to DishNet they might have added to DirecTV. I've still not gotten around to checking my channels, but I'm going to try to tonight.
I tried contacting people at Dos Mundos for help. I am not sure if that newspaper is still in existence
Sweetness. Dos Mundos came through. Has anybody heard of "La Fonda". Appearently "this restaurant is a typical Mexican restaurant that you would find in Mexico" and shows Telefutra. It is on the corner of Soutwest Blvd. and Summit St. According to mapquest.com it is about 1 block from I-35. The phone number is (816)471-1675. Does anybody want to go and check it out. I am always up for real mexican food.
Uh....someone call them and tell them that on June 21st around 130 PM they should be expecting a handful of USA soccer fans that want to drink the cervesa and watch the US play Brazil.
I'm up for it. Has anyone called yet? If not, how many people want to do this prior to the Wizards game? In other words, if I call and tell them people are coming, what is the estimated number I should tell them to expect?
I'm in. Calida would probably go. Thats two. As long as the Wizards dont post this on their website I'd guess you'll get anywhere from 20-40. If they post it could be much more since there's virtually no where to see this game in KC.
Me and Kent are going to check this place out tonight, to make sure it is a place that is. 1)safe 2)parking 3) size of the place 4) talk to the manager 5)Television viewing 6) see how the food is.
Wow. I don't think I've ever started a thread that went this long before. Anyway, let me reiterate that Telefutura is available free on Dish Network for anyone who subscribes to the America's Top 150 (which is what anyone that gets Fox Sports World subscribes to). It is channel 830, and it works. I've tried it. It's hard to believe that there are no establishments in K.C. that use Dish Network.
I just go on the site of the Kansas City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and asked them for suggestions. It was an idea, hopefully I will get a respose.
Yes, telefutura is definitely on DishNetwork's top 150 channels. I have it. Channel 830. I'm sure we can find some place in town that will have Dish and will be willing to show the match for us.
