He’s definitely proving my doubts wrong - but he’s also benefitting from one of our best talent pools ever getting older and more experienced. This team almost selects itself. When GB was being blasted many of us pointed out how young the team was and that age can matter. But roster aside - he’s clearly got this team ready and firing in ways we’ve rarely seen before - whether it’s hosting the cup or more players in their prime or a healthy squad of our best players or a poor opponent - I’m willing to give him tons of credit. It’s still one game. There’s no grade at this point.
I get what you're saying to a point, but Poch gets credit for the Freeman/Dest wrinkle which is what seems to have largely unlocked this team's potential.
other sources have indicated (despite the language used in Law 12) that this change was intended to allow for exactly this reversal and that WC refs have been so instructed. Closest thing I can think of was a hockey game I was at years ago where one team hit the puck off the inside of the post or crossbar, no goal called on the ice, it then went 4-5 minutes before another whistle....at which point they reviewed it, found the puck had crossed the line, awarded the goal, and rewound the game clock back to that point.

In the last set of friendlies, one could see the starting 11 coming around. It was my lineup as well, some folks wanted Reyna over Tillman. I believe Poch biggest contribution was his formation, game plan and on-field adjustments.

Turkey wasn't the better team on the day. And I don't say that just because of the score. The entire first half, Turkey was lazy, slow and had no real ideas. In the second half, they played little team ball and just asked Guler and Yildaz to score for them on their own. In contrast, Australia was extremely well organized and basically made zero mistakes defensively. It never really felt like Turkey was going to score; they just kept banging their heads against the extremely stout Australian wall. On another day, is Turkey better? Maybe. But possession doesn't dictate who the better team is. Australia was vastly superior on defense and more effective on offense.

Australia had a game plan and it worked, but Türkiye is a better team. They had 30 shots, 16 from inside the box. Australia put everyone in the box or close to it and the keeper was very good. Well done Australia but I’d rather play the Aussies every day rather than Türkiye.
