Yeah, I wish he played more like a longtime European pro like Freeman.

Defensive lapse aside, I thought Weah played well and was dangerous. He created a fantastic shot from a tough angle that was tipped over but inexplicably a goal kick. (One of two obvious corners we were denied). He has an eye for goal.

I wonder what the South American press had to say about our match last night.

there used to be a fantastic big soccer poster that would translate press from around the world for big USA matches.

Cool, I may check it out. Apparently you have to VPN to UK first though. Assuming you're not already there of course. ;)

Huh. I thought it was 3d.bbc.co.uk, but you spotted what I missed... it's 3d-bbc.co.uk Is this a fake BBC site? For sure? If so, then I agree with you

Edit: I've googled and found that the official site bbc.co.uk/3dWorldCup redirects to the one that Paul linked 3d-bbc.co.uk. So apparently it's legit. Phew.

Wasn't Weah subbed in right before this sequence? That was my thought as to why the goal happened....Dest just left and Weah came in and that side of the field was a mess (nobody covering) on that paraguay play. It seemed like unfortunate sub timing...or the subs were slow to get organized. I'll have to rewatch! What a glorious match to rewatch!!

Jon Arnold had an article this week about that in the USA today.

I think he listed 10 guys with US citizenship that were playing for other teams.

He even missed one, as I think Brown for Germany should have been on the list...

I haven't seen any of those "distance covered" metrics. Anyone seen those numbers for us in this game?

My local paper printed a very good article about him from about 25 years ago today.

It mentions that all you needed to do at that time was express your intent to become a citizen.

I haven’t get time to read all pages, but last time we beat Paraguay with +3 goals in a World Cup, we finished as 3rd. Can we improve on this?!

In the other group "opener" to night, Australia beat Turkey 2-0 in a commanding performance.

That result blows the group wide open for the Aussies and means any result against Australia all but ensures the USA will top the group on GD.

Even a draw means Turkey starting the final game chasing a win to guarantee progress. Pulisic, Dest and Balogun will have a field day - and that assumes the Turks beat Paraguay, which isn't guaranteed.

Thanks for eating crow. The best thing about it is that the crow eating is on the right side this time. Had it been me eating the crow for our "bet" that would have meant we sucked against Paraguay and nobody would have been happy about that.

Poch said from day one his job was to find and develop the best US team for WC 2026. Far too many used every little hiccup along the way to chastise him even up to the point of his final roster decisions.

Well they were all flat wrong. If you didn't have pure joy watching that 90 minutes then I'd suggest you find something else to do with your time.
