There’s one I recall where we ended the game scoring a last-ditch goal to win and advance to the next round. Otherwise, nope.
i've heard that one before.just scan the net and you will see a. plethora of articles explaining why the team never really advanced and why it might never. that said, it is the usual cry of it is not our game yada yada, incredibly like 94 after 32 effin years.....even the bbc got in on it interviewing a cabbie who asked oh is there a world cup? who is in it? i could not get over pulisic last night, and how he just dominated the defenders. after a shaky start even the subs in the 2nd half started doing it to them. my guess is paraguay was unnerved some by the crowd. i don't think they expected it. their recent experience here in a friendly maybe clouded their expectations...
Let’s also give some love to the Dutch ref. Paraguay is a dirty, cheating, violent team. I knew they had this rep but after last night I’m totally disgusted that much of their approach just seems to hack players and shithouse and simulate like the worst Central American teams. But that ref was ice, man. He caught not all but most of their fouls, let very little slide, did not seem intimidated for a second when they ganged up on him in (bullshit) protest, and best of all called out Almiron for a just utterly shameful dive. That card reversal was not only incredibly satisfying but it put an end to the wave of pressure Paraguay started the second half with—which is a totally morally justified result.

fox is just toxic. they are always homers even when they shouldn't be . only reason i watched is i have antennae and could get the free broadcast in english. peacock is all in spanish. the sfgate did a takedown on lalas a few years back that was just classic. that said, i didn't think the coverage was all that bad. i'm there to watch the game and really don't give a shit what the commentators have to say. my wife used to turn the volume down and turn the game on spanish radio to hear that feed while watching on tv. the good ole days, watching the world cup on grainy uhf in spanish and italian....was too poor to have cable even.
I hope everyone who didn’t want Gio on the roster eats a whole lot of crow today. Thankfully we didn’t take Luna or Aidan Morris over Gio (which some were calling for).
Blocked by FIFA. Which implies that the interviews are up on FIFA.com now... I guess I'll have to go hunting later. But LAST NIGHT is when this stuff really should've been available. When we were all still in the afterglow. TBF, that's still having a bit of an effect. Edit: Oops, didn't realize I just need to click "Watch on YouTube". Did I forget that? Did I never know? But now that I'm straight on that, I'm free like a bird!
2 kicks on the calf. He was complaining of tightness. Precautionary, probably wouldn't have been pulled if it were 1-0.
I'm still getting used to this. But it seems a good move. And this is why HC's get paid the big bucks.
Berhalter did exactly what he was brought on for. He didn't make an error except for the horrible lob that probably would have ended up in the back of the net for Vancouver.
And it's light years above the level of silly drivel that CBS puts out for it's UCL studio coverage. Thierry is the only serious thing about the latter, when you can understand what he's saying!
Yeah but in that game we were about to get eliminated, we had no choice but to go balls out to get a goal. Last night we easily could've packed it in and coasted to a 3-1 win which everyone on this board would've been thrilled with prior to the game, and we kept out foot on the gas anyway.
People dunked on him back in the day but he was arguably the closest thing to a Latin announcer in English.
Lots of quality exhibited by the US and all the players showed up and played with confidence and impact. But that rescinded yellow card to Ream and then awarded to Almiron... somehow I found that very satisfying and reassuring. We are in a different world. Oh yeah, maybe just something with SOFI but lets get the boots sorted out for the pitch. Slips can cause big problems.
Just a wonderful night. So proud of the boys. The pressing was so good in the first 45 that Paraguay couldn't get out of their half. The best all around game the US has ever played at a World Cup in my nearly 40 years following the team. I can't wait till Friday.
