Not sure what it means in soccer but in psychology it refers to the parent-infant imitation pattern. For example, when a baby smiles back at the mother, and vice versa. Or, in adulthood, I smile at you, and you’ll reflexively return the smile. Ultimately, it determines that you understand you are a unique self and you can differentiate and relate to an external other. Or, you could say, it’s one of the first signs that you know you are a social creature.

Now, maybe in soccer it means something of the sort that when an opponent moves in one way, the player has a tendency to move with him?

    Just guessing about that though.

Yeah, *I* was pretty upset about it. I think they were all genuinely embarrassed and agreed, which helped

first tackle, first foul, first shot, first goal.

...then about half an hour of mma dominating. second shot, second goal. jump ahead to thirty-second tackle, var check, no penalty. hold on for dear life. last sub, gio re...check that, cristian roldan.

    usa wins.

Bruce Arena led them out that day with crazy belief. I think we’ve come out every game with that belief and intensity. Kudos to the coach. Let’s make them suffer.

Decent night of sleep. Cask strength Laphroaig always helps. Kept having this fleeting thought that a Dutch player is getting sent off. Likely nothing but I’d be okay with that.

I think it was Leonardo, and he felt genuinely terrible and visited Tab Ramos in the hospital and all. Didn’t help restore the damage to him and his career. Leonardo went on the coach AC Milan a few years ago. Don’t know what he is doing now.

After playing Ferreira for 0 minutes in the group stage, Gregg decides to start him vs Netherlands in the biggest game in 8.5 years…. And still no Reyna.

Oh well at least the US government has taken an official position on soccer vs football

    Ouch. Let’s go Jesus!

I predicted a Jesus poacher’s goal the other day. He will buzz around at the feet of the giants like Mugsy Bogues.

I highly advise watching the Futbol Americas segment with Osorio. He does a great job illustrating both who we are and who the dutch are.

He says that its basically imitating the other team’s formation.

I can’t believe Reyna won’t see significant minutes. A bunch of our guys at positions Gio can play have been worked like rented mules and will get tired early in the 2d half. If Gregg is late identifying that it could get ugly, but I suspect it will be evident and Gio will get ~30 min. If he isn’t co-first choice sub at the 8 or wing, we will know there’s something more going on.
