To be fair…I’ve long thought far too many on our team play with a nonchalance that is indicative that they feel they are so far above the rest of concacaf (true) that all they have to do is show up (not true.). It doesn’t help that Gregg is historically slow at pulling the trigger on guys when they play this way.
Then you're removing our most dangerous player from the front 3. Maybe the play would be to press Jamaica's weak passing cb's and play a 343. Put Weah at wing-back. Then I'd probably put Aaronson at wing-fw.
It wasn’t a good half, but I think the early goal clouds people’s views a bit. We had a few good opportunities (Tillman’s was probably best). The balogun pass on the break could’ve been a little better, but CP also should’ve first-timed it. I did think the last 10 minutes or so were much better, but they still have to pick it up in the second half.
Forgot about the game, turned it on at the end of the half, saw they were losing already, decided not to waste my time. Seriously, if they can't be bothered at US Soccer to put on a quality presentation, I have other things to do.
i hope gio comes on for weah, with tillman sliding outside. malik is being exposed in the middle, and gio will likely put one on a platter for him moving into the box. everybody wins.
Tony Meola was the perfect choice for th. Bush league color guy for a bush league performance. Yeah, going down right away did help Jamaica pack the middle. But still, how can we be so out of sync?
Agreed players like Jedi and Mckennie are losing duels against scrubs. The effort just isn't there...
This is the difference between truly great and really good. I apologize to everyone for this comparison in advance, but I watched the Miami v Orlando game in which a pass came to Suarez FARTHER from goal than what Pulisic had on the earlier 3 v 1 play. Suarez does not wait for the defender to close but strikes 1st time ... goal. Pulisic gets a pass in the same vicinity relative to his dominant foot, closer to goal, and he instead tries to tee it up for himself to strike 2nd touch -- too late. I say it all the time: Pulisic scores goals, but he is not a natural finisher. We need to have a guy who is a more natural finisher at the end of chances. This would free Pulisic to do more creating. But that last chance just before the half, Pulisic MUST pass that ball, because if he doesn't score he is going to rightly be eviscerated. And I will be your huckleberry for that task.
I do wonder about the Flo selection ... yes he is playing for his club right now ... but he is just not playing well. Perhaps Pepi should have gotten the start. I also wonder why Jonny did not start instead of Tillman with Wes and Yunus. Jonny is the middle man for Real Betis. Malik is 50% of the time key for PSV. Regardless like always the credit goes to the players and the blame on the coach .... Egg is doing it again. He is not a good trainer or in game manager ... he just isn't.
I'm used to seeing the football team wearing green and gold winning at Cowboys Stadium just not like this.
I've said this before, but if people don't care about past national team performances, they've lost the right to gripe about current/future ones too. It's been pretty consistent who are the reliable performers for us. Weah is certainly one of them.
you have a point but it is Egg's job to yank their heads out of their arses and tell them to wake the f up.
How often did you see the team play significantly below its clear talent level in Arena I, Arena II, even freaking Sampson pre WC '98, Bora, Bob? The reason you see this is because fans know and see what these guys do at PSV, Milan, Juve, Fulham etc, and then they come on to the US under Berhalter and look barely better then a Jordan, or Bolivia every third or fourth start. They literally ---- the bed seemingly every 3rd start, this time, 3x in a row. "Not Great, Bob" as the Mad Men gif goes. That's what the frustration is. You could say its the players, but they don't do this with their clubs. They do with with Egg.
Worst of the first half: Joe Scally (terrible passing over and over--plus the failure on the goal), or Tim Tillman (and I thought that even before he flubbed that great opportunity at the end). Best of the first half: Tim Weah. The dude is always a competitor. He always brings the fire. I hope all of those who've been saying he shouldn't be in the Best 11 are watching this game (because they don't seem to have watched any of his other games--where he plays just like this).
