Agree with all that. Ream played well, but I’d still play McKenzie or Trusty in his spot 100%. He was still stuck in quicksand on a few plays. Subs played well, particularly the CBs, Gio, Aaronson, Scally. Thought Scally played better than Freeman. I loved Weah’s fight. We lost the midfield for a bit with Berhalter and Roldan, but they played better the last 15 minutes.
Well that could have been way worse. Losing like that to a team like that in the Quarters and I’ll call it an acceptable Cup.
I think he’s improved in that substantially. And the only time it happened today was against Tah, which come on…
Very brief thoughts for now: We held our own and even looked to be outplaying Germany at times, but we didn't generate a ton of truly dangerous chances and our goal was on a worldie. Which is great but hardly something you can do on demand. Offensively, we looked a lot more like the issues of the past -- we generated advantage in attacking spaces but the final ball was pretty bad today -- only 4 shots on goal given how often we were down there is a bit disappointing. Germany was very solid and didn't stretch themselves out, that was part, but we were pretty poor on decision making and execution on the break. Next game. Defensive organization was still pretty problematic when we were sitting back. Our CMs -- no matter who they -- seem to easily be stretched apart or enticed out of central spaces, leading our CBs to be playing against numbers. We are simply not good at stopping passes through our lines -- we have to pressure the ball. That second Germany goal has an entry pass into the middle that seems to pass about four of our defenders -- including an Adams who is now no longer central -- then Havertz makes an amazing one touch but Tillman or whomever is still in the center isn't close enough to him and that's that. Ream actually does a decent job recovery there, but they have numbers on us in Zone 14 and the box. Offensively, I love Christian and he was great. But constantly going down the left had the downside of running the build up through Jedi -- who's not great at it -- and leaving the McKennie / Dest / Freeman side pretty out of it except when Dest came more central. We felt a little one note and never really accessed the good chaos of Wes. Some of that was him, but some of that felt like simply never quite making it right.
Agree that McKennie needs to step up considerably if we are to have any chance of advancing in the knockouts
Our transition defense scares the shit out of me. 90% of the time fans complain about referee bias, it’s homerism. Welcome to the 10%.
Jedi and Dest I think are our two best players Adams was great and maybe input only irreplaceable player we are definitely going to need to outscore to win; our defense will for sure give up 1-2 goals every match m Robinson simply cannot play at this level Ream might be the least imposing CB at the WC
