Czechs win, 3-0, in Gelsenkirchen, with two stunning Rosicky goals coming after Koller's early opener.

Discuss -- and in a civil manner. No flames or trolls, please.

Damn, a lot of people predicted Concacaf having the worst team in the World Cup, but who would have thought it would be the US.

    From the live thread:
Spot on. I'm not including any bigsoccer posters but the US media obsession with rankings, tables, polls, etc. portended nothing but trouble for this apparently mediocre squad and the blowback will be severe. Of course, the media will excuse themselves from the effects of all the hype and the letdown.

    Terrible defensive mistakes

Czechs defense was amazing today.. completely stuffed our midfield.

Pope & Beas just poor for us

I can't believe Bruce went with a 1-5-4 for the first half.

The best team obviously won. I hope Koller is not out of the WC .

The U.S. is going to be deservdly slammed after this one. The Czechs fully deserved it and maybe we needed this butt spanking in the first game? Some of you have said it was all due to the Czechs today, thats garbage. They were good, no doubt. But we simply Did.Not.Show.UP.

A loss is a loss and would have hurt, but to lose like this. In a game where we could accomplish nothing due in large part to some inner lack of fire just plain rips out the heart.

Well that certainly sucked a great sucking.

Please take Beasley off the field; his first touch is horrible and he gets confused with the ball at his feet. This is nothing new - he's looked this way for months now.

Germany must be some kind of black hole for Donovan - he's just flat disappeared.

Judging by the way Lewis played, I think someone needs to check and see if he had money on the scoreline.

Come on, what's about Costa Rica? And the Czechs are x times better than the Germans.

3-0. The Americans totally outclassed by the Czech fluidity, passing and superior play. 5th in the World? Give me a break. A lesson taught today to the US. Don't fu*k with the big boys, you'll get bitten in the ass.

The game couldn't have started worse...Yellow for Gooch and then 0-1. Throughout the game you could feel the difference in class between these two teams, except maybe after the first goal when the US managed to find the wingers...only one decent shot on goal in 90 mins (Reyna). Nedved and Risicky were outstanding and just took control of the midfield. [they kept mispronouncing Rosicky's name on ESPN2--shouldn't at least Balboa and players in the studio follow soccer enough to know how to pronounce names of world class players--embarassing]
In the 2nd half US was totally helpless...I felt Arena should have taken Convey out and move Beasley to the left.
I went against my better judgement and believed the hype around the US team...Czech Republic outclassed us and, I guess, so will Italy...unless Italians choke like they sometimes do. Ah well...

Just lay it off on Rosicky. Arsenal's Rosicky.

If one of those shot of the bar goes in and the Koeller goal is in, then people will call it a scrappy 1-1 draw.

Just a couple of moments of brillance turn the game.

    Trying to be optimisitc here.

Czech Republic were very very good and the U.S were ordinary.

It'll be a competitive group though and nothing is over.

wow, that was just embarassing. Our midfield was non-existent. How can anyone call Donovan a leader when he was the biggest coward on the field. Beasley play like he deserves to be on a rec team and the big hype about Onyewu was a joke, all he was good for was fouling Koller and co. IF i even hear Keller complain after the game about the new adidas ball i'll probably throw up. Completely uninspired game by the U.S. and after a showing like this they dont deserve to make it out. The thing that most frusrating is how people like Donovan and Renya started walking after they fell down 3-0. They just gave up and said screw it, it really shows what our "leaders" are made of. Johnson was the only one who looked mildly dangerous and hope he starts against Italy. After watching this game i beleive we may lose to Ghana because the U.S. just showed that one good midfielder (Nedved) can beat our entire midfield all game long. I wouldnt be suprised to see Essien embarass the U.S. like Nedved and Rosicky did.

Bruce Arena brought out an unprepared side.

    The US has NO ENERGY.

THAT was embarrassing and insulting to US Soccer fans.

Bruce Arena is done. It's his job to have the team prepared to play, and they weren't, and they never were. The only question is will he be fired during the WC, or will US Soccer wait until the tourney's over.

So, who were the bright spots?

I saw Convey create some, but other than that...

My biggest problem with the game was fundamentals -- our trapping was horrific. Too many times the ball would pop up, eliminating any quick pass, wall pass, or allowing a defender to close in.

USA kept playing the ball backwards basically everytime they had the ball. Nobody wanted the ball it seemed liked, and like I said in the live thread DMB looked like a new comer to the game of Soccer an Reyna and Johnson just barely missed their shots on goal. If Reyna would've made it in the goal I think it could've changed things. But I'm dissapointed the way USA played today. Pavel did say though... that USA could be the dark horse of the World Cup.

completley wowed by the czech performance. from the teams that have played, they clearly played the best. and the US' performance was about as bad as angola's. ugh.

as a brazilian, im worried. looks like we'll get the czechs or italians. shit.

as for the US, i think they can get their act together. i think they'll play their hearts against the italians.

A well deserved victory for the Czechs.

They were superior in all areas of the field.

    Well done.

    USA is out

It's amazing how things can change in a matter of hours...

It's also a shame they played so poorly because sure the actual soccer fans in this country will not give up on the sport because they love it. But the US was playing that game not only to win but to prove to the world that they are a good team and are for real. This also sets the US back in terms of advancing in this country in the media. Your typical Joe Macho is loving this defeat right now because he just believes we have no future in this game. Don't give up on your team.
