According to Soccertv USA v Brazil @ the Confed Cup will only be aired on telefutura channel! Why would Unvision put such a big match up on a channel almost nobody gets????
I don't get it? Telefutura is owned by Univision, which is a televsion network based in the USA. They ought to give their national team some consideration by airing their matches on their most watched network
Univision Communications is trying to build up TeleFutura by putting good matches on that channel. Note that DISH Network is adding TeleFutura's national feeds (east and west) on May 29.
I called direct tv also and they said anyone can get it if they don't already by calling them for details on how.
The mostly cater to the viewing desires of the Mexican American audience. I would think this match would be of interest even if it was just for Brazil. I really can't answer why they put it on the least accessible of the 3. I guess you would have to ask them directly to get a reliable answer.
In addition, most major markets, especially in the Southwest, have TeleFutura affiliates on over-the-air TV. (Channel 68 in New York, channel 46 in LA, channel 60 in Chicago, channel 49 in Dallas, etc.) And if you get your local channels over cable or satellite, chances are that your local TeleFutura affiliate is included.
And I would add that once Oliver, Jesse, J Hutcherson, Chris Bergin, Grant Wahl, Marc Connolly, and Jeff Bradley (and maybe Tino Palace) can get enough money together, they will buy the English-language TV rights to the Confederations Cup and put all the games on ABC.
I wouldn't say "almost nobody gets". Charter cable here in central Mass. carries it. It's icluded in their basic line-up. I'm sure many other cable com... ... ...hey wait a minute... USA/Brasil will be shown on Telefutura???.... You mean, I'll be able to see this game??? oohhh yeah baby!!!!
When Univision launched TeleFutura about a year ago, they announced it would initially be available on over 40 over-the-air stations and, IIRC, would reach something like 80% of the US Hispanic TV market. And it's probably expanded a bit since then. If you go here (see box that reads, "TeleFutura en tu casa"), you can type your zip code and see if there's a local cable provider that offers it: http://www.univision.com/content/channel.jhtml?chid=6&schid=1611
Can some of our ESPN apologists explain why they cover rubbish friendlies and are not televising the US games in this tournament??
Yeah, basically that they would have had to spend money to get the TV rights where as all the USSF/MLS/WUSA games are time bought on ESPN by those organizations or their subsidiaries. No company bought the English TV rights for the Confederations Cup in the U.S. for this reason.
Unacceptable, you either cover the USNT or you don't! But, dealing with reality: Why wouldn't USSF time buy these games??
Re: Re: USA V Brazil on Telefutura bottom line is NO RESPECT for soccer, they televised live the little league baseball from south America before.....
I entered my zip code, and if I remember my Spanish correctly (I don't know a word), they told me to bug Cox Communications about adding it. Bastards! I'm going to need to find a bar in Phoenix...
Damn,I can't believe we don't get this in South Florida!Do they have a similar page to find out if I get the Galavision games?I know we get regular Univision and Telemondo I can't find it.
voros, unplug you cable and get the rabbit ears out. That's what I do here in Tucson. If we have it down here, you definitely have it in Phoenix. I have a cheap antenna and I get it crystal clear. Good luck!
Dear Uncle Phil: I watched "your" league until 4AM last Saturday night,so don't you owe me one........??
He's paid whatever he owes by buying the TV rights for the 2002 and 2006 men's World Cups and the 2003 Women's World Cup. I hate to sound like Oliver but that's about the only soccer out there that can draw good ratings in this country.
More info re TeleFutura markets Univision’s Annual Report for 2002 lists the markets (DMAs) that receive Univision and/or TeleFutura over-the-air through owned/operated stations or affiliates. I’ve listed the markets below. (I’d copy and paste the entire table that shows the info, but I keep losing the formatting from the pdf original. If you want the original formatting and snazzy graphics and whatnot, you can get the Annual Report at the Investor Relations page at www.univision.net.) Among the markets listed below, the only ones that are listed as not having a TeleFutura station are: McAllen TX, San Diego CA, Atlanta GA, Salt Lake City UT, Laredo TX, Odessa/Midland TX, Colorado Springs CO, Lubbock TX, Amarillo TX, Yakima WA, Cleveland OH, Reno NV, Honolulu HI, Indianapolis IN, Chico/Redding CA, Victoria TX, Little Rock AR, and Bend OR. Keep in mind that the Annual Report was prepared several months ago and some of the information may now be out of date. Errors have also been known to appear in companies’ annual reports from time to time. The number that follows each market is stated as its DMA rank by number of Hispanic households. Cable-only affiliates are not included. Simple answer: So people will do what it takes to get the channel. Same reason Fox put NASCAR on FX. My cable company was swamped with calls after people missed one race. FX was on basic cable in record time.
