Are any american teams planning to tour the Uk, i'd be interested how the leagues match up. I heard Man utd are heading on a sell out tour in the US this summer who they playing and s ny1 got tickets? Also i need help choosing a MLS team to support, i like teams with strong defences and have a good passing style of play, any teams fit this criteria? The MLS's versio of AC Milan i'm lookin for!!
Man U isn't scheduled to play any MLS teams. ------ The tour opens July 22 in Seattle, where the Red Devils will tangle with Glasgow Celtic at Seahawks Stadiumat 8 pm Pacific Time. It continues on the West Coast with a 2 pm July 27 game against Club America at the Los Angeles Coliseum . The excitement will switch to the Eastern USA July 31, when Manchester United and Juventus meet at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ at 8 pm. The tour winds up August 3 at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field, where the Reds will meet FC Barcelona at 8 pm. The match will not only pair two great clubs but will also be the inaugural event at Philadelphia's new showcase stadium. http://www.ultimatesportsdreams.com/manUNA/man_u_america.htm Also i need help choosing a MLS team to support, i like teams with strong defences and have a good passing style of play, any teams fit this criteria? The Colorado Rapids used to fit that description but not this season.
thats a bit ****************** of them goin all the way to the US to prompote soccer and they dont even bother playin a MLS side. is it durin gthe MLS season? Cheers ny way
I agree it would be fun to see but it could be a bit emberassing for an MLS team to get pounded in the middle of their season.
Are any of these games going to be televised? I would support Chicago, they have a great defense, and some good talent up and coming, it would be a no brainer if they still had Nowak and Stoichkov. Take in a couple of games to view and then make your own opinions, but I would support Chicago. I am a little biased though.
San Jose are easy to support. Two words: Landon. Donovan. They have a bunch of overachiving players and were not expected to do good this season. But good coaching, teamwork, and Donovan have helped them lead the league in points.
You even get the same colors if you pick MetroStars. Don't get me wrong. I hate MetroStars, but this year they have a great defence, lead by Pope, and have been killing me with well executed passing and finishing. But don't count the Crew out. They could easily find early season form again and take back the East!
Yeah it is (during the season), but there are plenty of reasons (good and bad) as to why they're not playing MLS. The seasons are such that at least one of the two (UK v USA) are in season the whole year. Makes tours and friendlies tough to schedule. From what I've seen so far, the four best teams this year look like San Jose, Columbus, Metrostars and the maddening Revs. Metrostars might be your best choice as far as AC Milan is concerned since: 1. The seem to do a little more of that short, one-touch passing than most MLS teams. 2. They stole AC Milan's home kit.
Metrostars drew with AC Milan last season in a friendly. 2 years before that, they defeated Bayern Munich in a friendly. So they seem to be a team that does well against European Champions Cup winners, and therefore a wise choice for the MLS team to support.
You can make the arguement that Leverkusen stole Milan's kit last year as well....many clubs around the world have the same colors and i like the stripes this time around.
Re: Re: USA teams heading for the UK?? Quakes & Metros have been the best teams this year - both w/ rock-solid defense & opportunisitic offense. Give the nod to the Quakes for being a more entertaining squad.
They are not coming here to "promote soccer." They are coming here for the Yankee Dollar and to promote Man U.
In answer to your other question, about the quality of the league here, this has been the subject of many hot debates on BigSoccer. I have been a season ticket holder for LA Galaxy since the league formed in 1996, and I also have a job which takes me to London a few times a year. I have watched a fair number of Premiership, First Div. and event Second Div. games. In my view MLS teams play about mid-table First Div. level football. Good enough to be genuinely entertaining, but not at EPL, Bundesliga, or La Liga level. On the whole, I think that is pretty good given the MLS has been around only 8 years.
