Stadium is in the middle of nowhere. Few bars restaurants etc Panama City is the nicest city in Central America.
Any idea when US tix for this match will come available? How difficult they will be to get? I was a supporters club member before they revamped the system, but as there haven't been any games in Europe since I havent done anything under the new system. At any rate, seriously considering making this my one qualifier of the cycle given that I am flying in from Europe and so want to do some general sight-seeing as well. Other main possibility is Mexico, but I am assuming that tickets for that match will be difficult to get. ANy thoguhts/advice, much appreciated.
February is my guess, and they won't be hard to come by. We'll announce on this board when we see them go onsale, there won't be a lottery so no worries there. Can either get from the AO travel package or directly from the USSoccer sale.
Thanks both - after looking at what I know of my upcoming work schedule, I booked flights to Mexico so will be going for the Azteca game rather than this one as its too likely that work will want my attention in March
Reminder to keep an eye on the Azteca game date will/may change due to the Confed Cup conflict. maybe a few days earlier than listed. fyi.
Panama 2005 was my second away qualifier. I took Diablo Rojos to and from the airport and to and from the match (plus for sightseeing). 25 cents each ride. My pension room was $8/night with shower in the room, cold water only. I'm going again in March. Accommodations have increased in price as it appears that gentrification has hit Panama City. Still, I'm looking at around $25 per night for a hotel room with bathroom. It looks like one needs a metro card now to ride the public transit with the fares still 25 cents or $1.25 for express buses. Those cards are unavailable at the airport to force tourists to take a taxi. I'm going to find a way to beat that scam. There are "piratas" vans that take the same route downtown for cash. Panama City was cool in 2005. I'm interested to see how it has changed.
Walk out to the bus stop (1/4 of a mile-ish) and offer anybody waiting for the bus some cash so he/she can swipe their card twice. I've done it before but will defo help if you speak a little Spanish. Some one will be happy to get $3-5 in exchange of $1.25 so just make sure you have some singles in your wallet. Even if you fork out a $5 bill it's still cheaper than the taxi.
Where did you guys do pregame the past trips? I'll find out where the AO group will be but hopefully we can all get together.
There's nothing by the stadium except a casino. That's where everyone met last time. Not really AO or anybody's fault but the casino was kind of lame.
