^^^ I'd believe that. It would make sense to get as many supporters into the stadium before going to the general public.
I don't know about Crew STHs but I image the numbers are higher after their MLS Cup run. Also, do we know if STHs will have a limit on additional tickets they will be allowed to purchase?
22,555 includes the entire stadium, including the North End. That number, however, does not include the temporary bleachers that have been said will be installed on the stage for the SA/AO crowd.
current lead headline at http://www.ussoccer.com/ Catch it Live on ESPN2 ------- CHICAGO (Jan. 12, 2009) — For the third consecutive time in final round qualifying for the FIFA World Cup, the United States will host Mexico at Columbus Crew Stadium. The USA’s most anticipated match of the final round will be played Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and Univision. Ticket information will be announced shortly. Fans will be able to follow the match live on ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker. ------
I'm not sure when the stage was put in, but I think the 22,555 is the current number (at least, according to Wikipedia and CrewStadium.com). Actual attendance figures may include fans, press, staff and even the players (since they all are technically watching the game). This is how games can have attendances bigger than the stadium capacity. Some stadiums don't do that, but some do.
22,555 may be normal/official capacity but according to this ussoccer.com link, both the 2001 and 2005 Columbus games were soldout at "more than 24,600." But of course there was no stage. As many as possible, please.
That will be cool as long as they are strong enough. I think the supporters section in 2005 occupied more than the sections that were removed for the stage. If my memory is correct, I don't think bleachers on the stage will accommodate us all. In that case we will also be in at least one adjacent section.
There could be something more clever going on, but I'm convinced that they have been waiting until they finalized the start time -- which was presumably being held open while they had discussions about broadcasting. With the start time being announced today, I (perhaps naively) believe them when they say that ticket info will be announced shortly.
I saw the site stating they will be announced shortly, but will they give us a few days heads up to as to when they actually go on sale. It wont be an announcment stating they are on sale now, will it?
One would think, but look we really don't know. The USSF has never been consistent. So either just wait and check around frequently or just go on StubHub. There isn't anymore answers you can get from here.
Crew Season Ticket holders just received an e-mail this afternoon. Each ticket holder can buy up to 8 seats for the game. The sale is for 2 days on the 22nd and 23rd.
Wally, Did they have pricing info? I'm looking to sit more center - not behind a goal - are there club level tickets?
Wow, waiting til the end of January to allow the general public to buy? The USSF is terrible at this..... First, they don't allow the Rapids Front Office to promote or sell tickets for the Guat game and now this?!?? Argh!
