The reason why I'm making an NSR version of this is because I'm quite sure the discussions about this on the Soccer-related boards will begin to fill the thread up with most NSR discussions.
I'm wondering if Trump's stupidity will cost us a WC bid.

Boy, the CONCACAF qualifying matches will get killer ratings if that ever happens.

I'm thinking we may not win the bid. Three countries automatically qualify. Unless that's the first year the expand the tournament to 48 teams. Also, there's the issue of Trump and his restrictions on immigration, especially with Mexico.

I think you are over exaggerating the Trump factor here. Here on PC&E, the topic is very sensitive but mainstream America is willing to look past that when dealing with unrelated issues.
This comes down to $$$$$. If each of the 3 countries feel like they win it alone, they will work together regardless of politics.

As far where the final be held? Excellent question.

The final will be held in Seattle, where the sport was invented.

Yep, better chance if it's just Mexico and the U.S.

Canada's kind of irrelevant isn't it?

I assume by "Trump factor" he meant the reluctance of the rest of the world to give the U.S. something, not the internal U.S. reaction.

Wahl claims Trump politics played a role in the decision to make it a joint bid. That seems incredibly dumb.

The world exists outside of the US and people have emotions. Them's the breaks. Canada and Mexico are well liked in general. We are not.

The thought of Trump being a problem is laughable. The next WC is going to played in a country where they make monkey noises and throw bananas at black players. And after that they're doing one in Qatar where pseudo slavery is still common.

If anything Trump should be beloved at FIFA. Make corruption great again.

Maybe. Norms have been broken and the certainty we felt in the 90s is gone. I am not convinced we will have free and fair elections or even something approaching that ever again but this is the wrong thread for that. The point is that words matter. Maybe Americans should have thought a little harder before allowing this orange terror to take office. *shrugs* BS or not, we will get no sympathy.

Good point. We should drop Canada from the bid -- it doesn't fit with FIFA's brand for corruption.

We're only five months into Trump's term. Give America enough time to discover its true self and you may not see all that much difference.

For a moment I thought it was saying that the US and Mexico would cojoin teams.
Two or three of the US would have to lean Spanish.

BUT it does fit the motif of the FIFA suit i.e. failing constantly to get quality work done.
