it is happening now.- pepi and balo are out, white still isnt the starter. in fact hes 4th on the depth chart that also doesnt include ferreira, sarge, or vazquez. and not for nothing, but strikers dont have or organize a defense or control their box. there is no 8 spg/5 cs month early next summer that would justifiy joe willis or brad stuver at the world cup. and thats yet another reason that entire line of thinking is flawed- mls/mex are the only players who can be in any form at all. the world cup happens in the summer.
Does Freese’s gaffe vs Haiti change anything? He’s not had much to do these three games and his most memorable moment was passing the ball to an opposing forward. Doesn’t create a lot of confidence. But also not clear it’s a pattern and he seemed ok otherwise vs T&T and Saudi at least.
Bad mistake but it didn’t seem to rattle him, in the way it rattled some of our fans in the PBP thread. We’re going to concede goals, including some bad ones, and the resilience to bounce back immediately is essential. Don't do that again, though, don’t make the same mistake twice.
The gaffe hurt his chances of grabbing the starter spot, but I do believe Poch will go right back to him so he still has the opportunity. Can’t happen again, though, because most managers can’t keep playing a mistake prone keeper, which is the label he would immediately assume.
Our only flicker of light at the end of this tunnel is Turner actually playing club ball AND regaining form. That’s it, end of. Steffan ain’t it and neither is the rest of the chasing back.
Until five years ago, that goal would be at least partly on Ream for putting his keeper in a bad spot.We would have blamed Freeze for not just booting it away and instead trying to do something a keeper shouldn't try. I blame Pep for this goal.
The positive is we have some competition. Turner knows he has to perform and that helps press the issue and the likes of Freese trying to continue starting.
sargeant would be in the mix with white and agyemang he isn't at the gold cup for the simple reason poch wants to look at other guys and doesn't need to see guys he already knows(this is why turner isn't playing at all too). it is true though to play in matches you have to be healthy and players who are injured aren't going to be playing.
Pochettino seems inclined to continue to play him for now "this type of accident happens, we are so happy with him" Pochettino on Freese mistake, noting nothing needs to be said to player in that situation #USMNT— Sanjay Sujanthakumar (@tha_Real_Kumar) June 23, 2025 We’ll see what happens if another such gaffe occurs.
Ream could have kicked it out of bounds to concede a corner or Freese takes a touch, pivots, and passes it to Freeman. Freeman then starts the counterattack.
he still we be behind in overall gaffes from turner last summer, I feel like people forget about the stuff he did last summer. do people remember him passing the ball to defenders a lot. On top of that when he didn't he was usually kicking the ball straight out of bounds for no real reason. It got a point where him kicking it straight out was a good play.
freese didn't have that much time, 20 was right there, if he had taken a few touches it would've ended in a goal and freeman wasn't as available as it looked in the end. there was a haiti player not far away who would've turned that into a disaster. ream should've punted it into the stand and freese should've too.
That was a horrific gaffe, and one that will probably prevent a summer transfer for Mr. Freese. We cannot afford to have any such gaffes next summer. For me, it says he is not yet ready to be an international player.
You have to continue with Freese. Everyone gets a freebie. Should he make another gaffe at that level, then it may be goodbye. We have to see how Freese plays the rest of the tournament against tougher competition.
who is next though? obviously turner is out after his 'passing' last spring/summer. someone has to play
A good keeper is able to keep possession or start a counterattacking opportunity from that situation.
I doubt any European clubs were watching a game against Haiti and thinking "nope" just because of that error.
People mention Keller's gaffe where he kicked the ball off of Hermosillo's noggin into his own goal. I haven't heard people mention Brad Friedel's gaffe versus Romania in 1993: video. While Friedel didn't start in the 94 WC, he was Meola's backup and went on to have something of a decent career, IIRC. Mistakes happen, even to the best of the best. What matters is how they respond.
