why? Landon is a super-interesting person and Howard was amazing. Both among greatest ever in our country. No other podcast has 2 legends like this.
What a funny time to ask that, I wrote it two and a half weeks ago... this is from two days ago: Also just because both are among the greatest ever in our country as athletes doesn't mean they're not also morons... those things are not mutually exclusive
I get your point on this subject but he has expanded on what he means. It is quite rationale or at least way more rational than the short clip about MLS
Landon is far far from a moron. I actually had a slight relationship with Landon and he was and is a very bright guy. Very thoughtful. Not a typical jock.
What about "Gio Reyna in MLS would play 300 games by now." is rational? Does MLS have magical injury healing powers that Dortmund doesn't? Edit: If you say so... he doesn't really show it.
He might well be correct . Playing regularly definitely provides some protection against injuries. We can't know. You may not agree but it's not crazy.
So Gio's injury issues are from... not playing enough? It's not that Gio hasn't played more because he's frequently injured?
it went/goes in both directions. The fact that he is playing very few minutes means he lacks the physical resilience that comes with more playing time.
Or the injury vs Canada in the Nations League final when he got tackled right before halftime... we don't have to speculate because we actually saw it
I talked to him a couple times and fully agree. He was also the guy who managed to get that 2005-2009 CBA, which happened to be the most important MLS step forward, signed.
I just meant he was playing regularly for Dortmund at that point (and the US) so it wasn’t because of lack of playing time.

We're expecting Turner to start for Crystal Palace against Arsenal today - a good test, and with a bonus for winning/advancing - a two-match semifinal in January/February 2025.
Goalkeeper update Matt Turner with a Reyna-level disaster Premier League loan that gets talked about 1/1000 as much 1869494113206411297 is not a valid tweet id Drake Callendar may lose his starting job 1869045141094433143 is not a valid tweet id 1869041806681481513 is not a valid tweet id
He had two even better saves, one of them required absolutely phenomenal reflexes. Hard to tell how complete his game is, but if people like athletic Brady, this kid is at least as good or better athletically and with good feet. 1867836746572222758 is not a valid tweet id
Pretty interesting discussion about the goalkeeping issue here. It really highlights just how thin our options are.
If we had to call in three GKs for a low stakes friendly tomorrow, I would probably go 1. Turner 2. Freese 3. Kochen and two of those three haven't played a single minute for the USMNT before lol
I wonder why Celentano doesn’t get more of a mention? Based on my evaluation, I would say that he’s consistently put up reliable performances over an extended enough period of time. He’s young. He might not necessarily be the second coming of Tim Howard. But he doesn’t seem to crap his pants (at least as much) like our other keeper options.
He is a good reliable keeper, but his ceiling isn't that high. For some reason such guys don't get enough hype. Stefan Frei has arguably being in top 3 American keepers forever and still is the second best, never got a single call.
Frei I think was hurt by not getting his US citizenship till later in the 2018 cycle and Berhalter wanting to move on to the next generation of goalies by the time he took over.
