He is. .............................and the vast majority of his starts for the USMNT have been fine. When we make a list of the games that we lost due to Matt Turner's play, the list is pretty short. I think we've been thru it a million times. If all you want is for Matt Turner to be a goaltender, he'll do very well for you. But we saw what happened with Forest, and we saw what happened at times for the USMNT. Matt Turner isn't one of these keepers that can play with the ball at his feet. There's only so much "playing it out of the back" that we can do with him. So its not really about passing decisions with him. We know that's not his game. So if we want Turner to start, we just don't put him in those positions. If we just stopped trying to put that square peg into a round hole, that would really benefit us. By the way, he's not alone amongst USMNT keepers in that regard. Not in a million years would you want Brad Friedel to play with the ball at his feet. Impossible. He'd be a flamingo on roller skates. But times have changed.......................
Apparently their no.1 is an Estonian on loan from Arsenal. The Premier League is so nuts financially speaking that you can easily make more as a no.2/3 at a Premier League club than starting in probably half of the clubs in any of the top 5 leagues.
And Arsenal was still caught with their pants around their ankles and had to start a 16 year old in the League Cup. And a kid who'd only recently turned 16. Premier league clubs sign all of these keepers and then loan them all around. Chelsea currently has 7 keepers out on loan. Why? Its impossible to figure out. And you're 100% right. Keepers keep signing for Premier League/Championship clubs due to the money. How can blame them? Ethan Horvath, a backup at Cardiff, makes more money than every US-eligible keeper in MLS.
You right. Coming off his 2019 performances for Brugge in the Champions League, Horvath could have easily started for some clubs in the Bundesliga or Serie A or Ligue 1. Plus he had an EU passport I wanna say. But Championship wages speak louder.
Kochen is back Yesterday, Diego Kochen has recovered from the hamstring injury on his left leg and was training with Barcelona’s first team. 🏃🧤[🎥: @JoseL_Olivares]pic.twitter.com/nIeBZwUadj— USMNT Otaku 🇺🇸 (@USMNTOtaku) October 15, 2024
Phase 1: Purchase players at astronomical figures Phase 2: Ruin their careers Phase 3: ..............not profit
I admit I wasn't so specific but why no way? He starred in the last three matches of the CL Group Stage in 2019 which helped a bunch and did well enough in Belgium. He should have left the moment the club brought Mignolet. That screwed up his career trajectory royally.
Because he is a poor keeper and that would be found out in any league including MLS. He is a nice guy though, and good for him to have the trajectory that he has.
I don't blame them, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't affect their national team chances if it is something that continues season after season. Horvath could surely find an MLS team that would start him every week if he really wanted to play. Would it be a pay cut? Probably, but he ahs to make a choice if he wants to be a guy who plays and has a path to the national team or not. It's easy to think you have a shot at playing and wanting work to win a spot and sometimes you come up short in a specific situation. But, when you know you're going to be a bench player for the long term, you need to be working to find a way onto the field. Go get on a team you can play with, or take your paycheck and understand you are not going to get games for the US. I wouldn't look down on a player for making that decision and I wouldn't punish a guy for giving himself a year to win a bigger role, but if you settle on career backup, it has consequences.
"Episode IV: A New Hope" Given that Turner started both games this should be changed to either "Meet the New Hope, Same as the Old Hope" or "No Hope"
Schulte doesn't have an EU passport by chance does he? I recall Arsenal had some interest sometime within the last year.
Not that I’m aware of but wouldn’t matter for England. And under the new work permit rules I don’t think he’d have a problem qualifying even if he doesn’t get national team caps.
Another young GK to throw in the mix This Saturday, Homegrown Adam Beaudry is expected to make his long-awaited @MLS debut!#Rapids96 pic.twitter.com/iPmxtw2fDc— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) October 18, 2024
Just imagine if he takes the spot from Steffen. But they’re probably too invested for that to happen.
For 2026: 1. Turner - could use a starting job. But has easily the most and best experience. 2. Schulte - Furthest along of the young guys and seems to have a pretty good ceiling. 3. Guzan - can help in the leadership andwont crap yhe bed if put in. Seems like he had reasonably good year for the Five Stripes.
18 year old Adam Beaudry did not have the best MLS debut... but no American goalkeeper drew as much negative attention as Drake Callendar given all the Messi accounts were tuned in Drake Callendar is Ter Stegen in disguise, I swear. pic.twitter.com/Drj54WN3y4— Messi Tribute (@MessiTribute) October 19, 2024
That was a good opportunity for Beaudry. I don't know why other teams aren't doing that. San Jose and Dallas had nothing to play for yesterday. Nothing. Why didn't they give games to Emi Ochoa and Antonio Carrera? Its maddening. I'm sure people can come up with other examples from yesterday. Dead games. But whatever................................. Dallas didn't even start their #1. They played their #2 Jimmy Maurer. For Christ's sake. Play effing Antonio Carrera!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way, Dallas' MLSNP keeper was named to the Team of the Year. Michael Collodi. What are they going to do with him? I don't know. Maurer is 35 and out of contract. So maybe next year Carrera moves to #2 and Collodi becomes #3. I don't know. But what does any of it mean if you're not going to play them????
