These are awesome.

I can't talk right now. Watched the game at The Pour House, in Washington DC, about 3 block away from the US Capitol building.

When we scored, the place went nuts.

 

I love how everyone goes from hopeful to depressed to ecstasy in a matter of 5 seconds

freaking awesome, its exactly how it was where i was watching as well. about 25-30 of us gathered in a mini theatre. when landon scored everyone was going bizerk, jumping around screaming with pure and absolute joy. ill never forget it.

OMG I love this thread. Brings back, very powerfully, the memories of the game.

I'm actually glad there was no camera at Paddy Reilly's because I would be kind of embarrassed to have been caught on camera at that moment--I must have looked like a coked-up zealot speaking in tongues.

 

I hope someone had a camera going at Bushwallers in Frederick, MD. It was off the hook.

 

Makes you a little misty eyed again doesn't it??? What a powerful moment. I would have hugged anybody at that moment.

By the way, can we pass a rule among US soccer fans? When a moment like that happens (I know, it may never again), no more lame high fives. The appropriate response is a delerious hug and dance.

 

Another point. I wonder how many pints of beer were spilled when that goal went in. The quarterly profits of the beer distributors probably went up by a significant percentage in replacement beers alone.

 

Thanks for the thread - I have spent the whole morning watching these. Has there ever been a US sporting moment like this that was shared across the country like what we see in these videos? The only thing I can think of that could compete is the Miracle on Ice, but I don't know if that was viewed as communally like this seems to have been.

It really is telling just how much of a hold the World Cup has on the world when we are comparing a moment where we advanced to the Round of 16 with one where we won the world championship (not technically that game, but close enough). And I am right with everybody. That moment when Donovan scored was the most emotional/intense of my life as a sports fan. Nothing comes remotely close.

Here is a video from Atlantic Crossing here in Seattle (it's the pub that was featured on ESPN prior to the game - I did not notice any other cuts to there after that). I was at the George & Dragon and the scenes of emotion there were pretty similar.
