This ref is a disaster. Totally lost. This pk was a mess. Didn’t stop on the head injury. Swallowed her whistle on like 5 fouls both ways after the missed high kick. Just totally useless.
Contact does not matter for a high foot. If there was contact it would have been a red card as well instead of just a yellow.
2-2 - I guess Rodman's inclusion was not a mistake. Called back by VAR offside very early in the play. so still 2-1 BTW: On a totally different tact: I like Rodman's hair better like she is wearing it than the high bun she used to wear for matches. I am not sure it really is a different style as her hair also appears lighter.
It was the first or second pass. It was Smith that was offside almost right at the half line. They finally showed a brief replay of the offside and it does look like correct call. On the last kick of the half Rapinoe floats a free kick in to no one.
A half that Rapinoe would like to forget. But 2-1 in favor of England is pretty much correct. I have hopes for the second half. I hope Rapinoe gets subbed out and someone with some speed and defensive ability gets put in in her pace. If the US plays 10 v 10 for the second haly we just might win this thing. Rapinoe used to be a good player but now pretty much all she does is stand out wide and yell at players as they run past her.
I don’t agree at all on the offside. Certainly not clear and obvious especially from that angle. I do agree though Rapinoe turns into a turnover machine in a game like this.
There is one thing I do not really understand about the PK. I could be wrong but I know a "high foot" is dangerous play and that is a free kick but is it not an indirect free kick. I thought an indirect free kick was always given at the point where the foul happened, even inside the box, and the defending team can set a wall. It is an indirect free kick just like the 'keeper handling a ball in the box that was passed back using the foot. But laws and interpretations change and I might be remembering from some time ago.
Y Well if she’s got 195 caps, you know she’ll be around for another five, but hopefully it’s against tomato cans & not in Australia!
The delayed offside is absolutely ruining soccer. The last call was correct but it was so late that the call itself actually invited meaningless injury.
Pretty clear she called the DFK offense of kicking n opponent, not the IFK offense of playing in a dangerous manner. PIADM would also not have been a caution. The caution was for a reckless DFK foul, as the concluded that the foul was reckless and didn’t rise to the level of SFP. Seems right to me given the minimal contact from a legitimate effort to play the ball.
THIS!!! Footie is lucky players aren’t getting injured left and right continuing play on a call that’s just gonna be called offside anyway. They need to go back to the way offside used to be called. I’m glad hockey saw the light and switched to no touch icing because that greatly minimizes the chances of injury for players who no longer go balls to the wall trying to touch up even after the puck has crossed the red line.
in years if the ruling is contact was made it’s kicking another player. Direct kick/pk. If it’s in the vicinity, but no contact then dangerous play and indirect. I haven’t see an indirect high kick called in years.
