Our XI taking the field in KC 🇺🇸Lineup Notes ⤵️— U.S. Soccer Men's National Team (@USMNT) September 7, 2024 I literally don't like any notable swing decision, other than Schulte in net. Dislike: Lund, Ream, Tillman, no Sargent or Wright, no Morris, BA at w instead of middle
Schulte major surprise, don't can't really read too much into since you don't know how Poch will view Turner. Wouldn't have minded someone else getting minutes next to Richards, but maybe you want a veteran CB in front of a keeper getting his first A team cap
I believe this is how Canada is lining up? Goalkeeper: Crepeau - Was a competitive keeper battle between him and St. Clair for The Copa America, but Crepeau ended up winning it. 30 year old who's been in North America his entire career. He's played for Montreal, Vancouver, LAFC, and moved to Portland this season Left Back: Davies - One of the best left backs in the world, plays for small club in Munich, Germany. LCB: Cornelius - Moved from Malmo in Sweden to Marseille over the summer. He's started 2 of their 3 Ligue Matches this season RCB: Bombito - Another Ligue 1 newbie, he moved to Nice from The Colorado Rapids over the summer. He's started both of their matches so far this season, though did get a red card in the last one. RB: Johnston - Played college ball at St. Johns and Wake Forest before spending 3 seasons in MLS between Nashville and Montreal. He's now teammates with CCV at Celtic where he's been a consistent starter since he moved there right after The World Cup LCM: Choiniere - Position normally belongs to Marseille's Ismael Kone, but he's hurt. He was at Montreal since 2018 and has been an MLS All Star in back to back seasons. He moved to Grasshoppers in Switzerland 2 weeks ago, but has yet to play for them RCM: Eustaquio - Been in Portugal pretty much his entire career, outside of playing 34 minutes for Cruz Azul in a single game back in 2019. He spent a couple years as a starter for Porto, but got benched last spring and does seem to be a backup option through 4 games this season. Left Wing: Shaffelburg - Really creative player who starts for Nashville SC. Scored against us in that 2023 Gold Cup Match Right Wing; Ahmed - Canada not going with Lareya here and instead going with Ali Ahmed. 24 year old who broke through The Vancouver first team last season Forward: Larin - Former UConn Husky and Orlando City man. Spent 3.5 seasons in Turkey and 1.5 in Belgium before moving to Spain. He was Mallorca's 1st choice striker last year, but only scored 3 goals and appears to be 2nd choice in the early part of this season. Forward: David - Brooklyn born man who's been an incredibly consistent scorer for both club and country. He was the 2nd leading scorer in Ligue 1 only behind Mbappe last season, he was the 3rd leading scorer the season before, and he's bagged at least 13 goals every season he's been with Lille. He already has a goal this season too.
I’m telling yall right now…. It’s a damn mistake to build our backline around Tim “Methusaleh” Ream. He’s past it. Quit living in the past. Let’s let the new guys get some reps. Varas gets an F on the line up choice on that alone. I’ll upgrade him to a D- if he pulls Ream at the half.
It’s confirmation that Richards has not earned the trust of his coaches to take over leadership in that position. Ream is still a very good player.
I don’t know how anyone can watch any of Richards’ performances with the USMNT and think that he has shown any signs of establishing himself as Ream’s replacement.
At some point, a player is too damn old to play. Richards was poor at Copa America but he’s been good for the US other than that, and he’s been promising with his club. Meanwhile, it’s a wasted opportunity to not blood McKenzie /Trusty.
I don’t think they are blooding players in this camp. I think that they are gathering info for Pochettino. They are probably checking to see where both Ream and Richards are. If Richards was showing well to coaches, Ream would be a reserve.
What are we hoping to gain from this window? That needs to be clarified. Since Poch wasn’t going to coach, it would have been a good time to rest some starters in order to give some other guys a chance. We need to determine who could push the starters out…. As once Poch comes into the picture, there aren’t going to be a lot of opportunities to test our depth, because our priority should be on tactics, strategy, and chemistry. Just seems very short sighted to not use this window to look at our team in the long term (to 2026).
From the notes…. This already is Pulisic’s 72nd cap! He has 10 more than Ream. Musah already has 39 caps including today. Marlon Fossey could make his USMNT debut today. https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2024/09/usa-vs-canada-usa-lineup-today-starting-11-lineup-notes
I think it's just getting some guys reps and footage for Poch. The timing of these games is unfortunate, but it is what it is.
just middle of the road oatmeal, as expected. sarge is actually healthy and in form...nope. match canadas raw size/speed/power approach with cowell? nah. lund and tillman rewarded for...something. super! two cbs who are still comfortable driving at night? we arent ready for that! we need reams leadership in this (checks notes)- manager-ess friendly. at least we sat turner. i would say this cm could get completely choked off, but hey, canada doesnt have a middle either. ill predict canada missing 8 should-have-been goals, bagging one, and a late pk that totally gets malik going. U-S-A! U-S-A!
Dest is our only RB I’ve seen actually handle Davies defensively, despite what all these expert ass fans tell me about his D. This will be an interesting test.
