Summers is definitely the best soccer bar in America! Thanks to Summers (and to the hardcore fans who came out) for making it so great. The place was packed for what really was just a friendly with a Canadian "C" team (that certainly played like it). Still the joint was packed by many fans including former Nats John Harkes, Jeff Agoos, and Richie Williams. I thought it was pretty cool that they came out to support their national team, and I also thought it was cool that people didn't seem to mob them or treat them too specially. They are soccer fans like the rest of us too. Of course the game wasn't important at all, but it brought back memories of the World Cup games there... like when we beat Mexico and people were dancing in the streets at 6 in the morning. I'll definitely be there for the Argentina game!
I totally agree! I was up in DC for the peace rally with my dad, and was thrilled to be able to watch the game at Summers, although we did have to stand for the first half. What a great turnout for the game. Thanks Joe for showing the game, and thanks Kim for your hospitalitly. I'll be back! Erika
jealous... Man, I am so jealous. I dragged a dozen friends out to Capitol Lounge to see the game. The guy at the bar said it wasn't being shown and refused to put it on. There were many other people there with US scarves and jerseys obviously in the same situation. Not sure what happened there.
it was a good time at Summer's, they really really do need to do something to improve the service though! Agoos's gf/wife whatever she was was a knockout! Thanks to Summer's for showing the game and for free! I dragged 3 friends down with me and made sure they ordered food and drinks.
Re: jealous... Although the Lounge advertised they were showing the game, no one actually ordered it (either they forgot or didn't think they'd get enough folks to pay for the feed). A lot of folks who went there then made a mad dash to Summers. K
Maybe that was one reason Summer's was so packed. Even still I think there were more people at Summer's than in Ft. Lauderdale.
<sigh> Well, fortunately I'm very forgiving and understanding. Finding a place to watch soccer matches is very tricky business, and its nice that people like this make the effort. I was pretty interested to hear about the renovations to Summers. I live just a few blocks away from there, but I've never thought it was a great place to see games. Just my personal opinion. I think its a wonderful idea to renovate. Can't wait to see it.
