There should be a world wide ban on American soccer teams playing abroad in any match or tournament, sanctioned by FIFA, the moment the USA starts its war of agression on Iraq.

The soccer world must unite and rally around countries that are blindly being attacked by belligerent warmongers.

Europe must lead the way and address this serious issue with FIFA.

    Boycott US Soccer!

Would you rather the US waits until an innocent country was attacked and millions die?

Now, I don't know this for sure...but there is a reason we have officials making these decisions. They have information and knowledge that BigSoccer Newbies do not and are experienced in this department.

I trust the United States government, and as a Midshipmen (aka "Officer in Training") in the United States Navy, I will be willing to give my life so that the freedoms and ideals of America are protected.

My goodness, boycott American soccer?!?! Because you believe in something that you can't back up? Riiiiight...

Before you pontificate about US action, you should watch an unedited video of what Saddam Hussein did to his own people. It is one of the most chilling examples of why he should be removed.

This was the belief in 1991 when he invaded Kuwait which holds an abundance of oil. Not now, he's not invading Kuwait. He has been given 12 years to disarm and hasn't done it. No chance in hell this is about oil.

My god, if you think a friend of mine fought and died in Iraq for oil you are mad.

if this isnt about oil then how come the US wants a peaceful solution to North Korea and doesn't even think about attacking them eventually? Iraq is not a threat to the US or most countries. Iraq like almost every country has the right to protect itself.

I can't believe I'm saying this, or responding to this for that matter, but anyway

That will do absolutely no good. Do you really think the majority of Americans are going to care if we're banned from FIFA competition for awhile? Whoopdefreaking doo.

[sarcasm] Ooh, the US got banned from soccer tournaments! That'll teach them a lesson! [/sarcasm]

Please. From a soccer perspective, it's a bad idea because, with the exception of the World Cup, we don't participate much in FIFA tournaments. There's the Gold Cup, and the clubs play in the CONCACAF club championship (whatever that one is called), but that's about it, as far as I can remember. From an economic perspective, it's stupid, because we Americans have money and even though the majority of Americans don't pay much attention to soccer, when it comes to the World Cup, any attention can lead to money. Do you really think FIFA to ban one of the biggest (if not the biggest) market in the world?

I'm not even going to go into the reasons why we're going to war - just from a soccer perspective, this idea is ludricrous.

If it was about oil, we would would anex Saudi Arabia or Kuwait. No one could stop us and it would be a lot less messy.

I've argued the merits of a war against Iraq dozens of times over in the politics board, so I'm not going to go into it again here, it's way off topic. I will say however that I don't think it's the job of FIFA, the IOC, etc to govern political matters--no country, IMO, should be banned from international sporting competitions for political reasons. Even such extreme examples as North Korea, Taliban Afghanistan, apartheid South Africa, etc. It's just not FIFA's job.

Did you even read my post? He agreed to disarm. He hasn't. This is a violation of his agreement. I don't know how to make this more clear to you. North Korea never agreed not to produce these weapons. That's why we want peace with them.

If you watched Nightline about a week or so ago, if we start something with North Korea, there's a very good chance that win or lose, Seoul, South Korea gets devastated with huge casualties.

That's why we're not so eager to start something there.

exactly, the military capability of north korea is so much higher than that of iraq and there is a huge population base <both american and korean> within striking distance of north korean missles...sadam can lob whatever he has left in hopes of hitting anything, but more than likely he will just torch his own oil fields upon retreat since that is all his military is capable of...

if you didn't know if we attack Iraq it is very possible that they use their "weapons of mass destruction" attacking us, israel, and other countries of Europe. ever hear of propaganda? the media will back the interests of the country.

one of our closest allies (israel) gets terroized almost daily and we say they should not fight back and they should be peaceful and we search for a peaceful solution with Palistine.
on the other hand the US gets attacked once by Afghanistan (sp?) and we go all out drop very exspensive bombs on sand.

This has to be the most brain dead thread idea in awhile around here...and that's saying something considering the "Owen to MLS" thread. I'm sure that's just what Dubya is fearing most....the dreaded FIFA ban!!!

Go ahead and boycott, dumba$$...you won't be missed and you'll be very alone.
