Glad to see we are going to play yet another quality european side when the USMNT travels to the Netherlands on Feb. 18, 2004. Think JOB will be healthy by then?
Re: Re: US vs Netherlands I would think they'd have a strong side considering they're preparing for Euro 2004.
if feb 18 is one of those fifa international dates then i would expect netherlands to field a quality team anyone know if feb 18 is one of those designated dates?? i always like to see the usa go to europe to play against the big boys its better than 5 matches at home against paraguay, honduras etc
USA-Holland 2002 was one of the best, if not the best soccer game I have ever seen in person.Although the score was 2-0 for Holland, it was a VERY even match. It made all of us feel very good going into the WC. Reyna vs Davids in the middle of the field was the battle of Titans. Also, DMB made his statement that he was ready for the full Nats- he humiliated Reizinger so badly that they withdrew R after 30 minutes. What a game that was!!
That goalkeeper Watterrus (sp?) had one of the best games I've seen a keeper have. Without him that match would have been at least a draw or maybe worse for Holland.
February 18th is one of the FIFA international dates. For next year the dates are: 2/17 or 2/18 (Friendly date - prelim WCQ) 3/30 or 3/31 (Friendly date - prelim WCQ) 8/17 or 8/18 (Friendly date - scheduled for WCQ) 9/4 or 9/5 (Official Competition date - WCQ) 10/9 or 10/10 (Official Competition date - WCQ) 10/13 (Official Competition date - WCQ) 11/16 or 11/17 (Friendly date - WCQ scheduled 11/17) Concacaf was allowed to make use of two dates reserved for EURO 2004 (6/12 - 7/4) to schedule WCQ's on 6/12 or 6/13 and 6/19 or 6/20. They were also allowed to schedule one on 9/8 which is NOT an official date as of the July 2003 Co-ordinated International Calendar. If we have arranged to play Holland as a tune up that's great. I'd love to see us make use of the second available date in March too.
Reiz got injured dude...big difference. DMB abused Stam. Megged him twice like he was a statue. Watch your tape again...Stam does a 360 turn one of those times looking for him like Beaz had disappeared like a fart in the wind..
One thing, the Olympic Team has their qualifying Feb. 2-12, so we could see see DMB, Convey, Donovan, Buddle, etc. come into camp really comfortable with each other and ready to go or they could be a little fatigued. I think both teams will bein gtheir B teams at the worst, but with Euro 2004 coming soon for the Dutch, this would be a good test for their team. This will certainly be an interesting match.
I was at the game so I never knew Reizinger was hurt. You sure? We saw him walk off and he looked fine except for his pride. But Beaz sure hurt him. Stam later flattened Beaz and took the card.
yeah he was...ironically i watched this match on tape just about a week ago...and yes Stam did flatten Beaz...Jack said something to the effect of "usually when Stam lays you out like that, you arent getting up for a while" after Beaz popped right back up
Why would we play our C team? Sure the MLS guys will be rusty or just on a drinking vacation, but this'll be a good opportunity to look at some young guys and catch up with our Europe-based players. Just because Holland hasn't had our level of World Cup success recently, doesn't mean they're a bad side.
All the Euro 2004 countries will be looking for quality tune up matches. There should be some great opportunties. Besides, this would be returning the faovr. They came here to give us a tune up before WC 2002.
Your reply, though, sounds totally like a newbie. If you want to see the sum total of someone's post work, do a quick check of their previous posts before you pass judgement. Not every post is meant to be a masterpiece, sometimes they're just quick questions or asides. Sometimes we post when we're drunk or incoherant - bottom line, read a little before you make a call on what a 2000+ poster "should" sound like. http://www.foxsportsworld.com/content/view?contentId=1941632 Article on match. I'm pleased. The Dutch are a good side - and just look at who we're replacing for this match. We should bring a good team. I'd love to see JOB if he's healthy.
Thanks femfa. Don't forget sarcastic. But sam'ssoldier can ask around: I drove straight off the road at the learning curve, but it's hard to lose your Permit on BigSoccer. Anyway, bring on those Syracuse wannabes!
videos of Nats games I was wondering since I'm still a newbie- Does the USSF have an archive like NFL Films does....can you purchase some of our memorable games? Or am I just SOL because I didn't tape them at the time? Again I know this is probably a dumb question, so go ahead and rip me.
Re: videos of Nats games This guy has a lot of memorable USA games for sale. They better be cheap (cost and shipping) as it's illegal unless he has some deal with the owners, which is unlikely. http://www.davebrett.com/
Bring on the Dutch I'm stoked that we're playing a big team on the road in Europe. I'd love to see every friendly on the FIFA calendar from here to qualifying be with a major European side. I know this is unrealistic, but can't a fellow dream?
