Sorry, to be annoying, but I am a newbie here, and I am starting to follow the MetroStars and soccer in general a little more than in the past. Going to a MetroStars game with my team got me into it.

Anyway, when is the US vs. Mexico game, what time, and what channel? Also, will it only be Mathis, Pope, and Howard who are called up from the Metros, or am I missing anyone?

    Thanks.

The United States play in primetime (always wanted to say that), Thursday 8PM on ESPN2.

Only Mathis, Pope, and Howard are going for the Metros. This is not an international date so Arena can't recall his overseas players, but we still want to win because it's Mexico, so the best of the American MLS players are called up.

    Thanks guys.

So does this mean no Friedel since he plays overseas? Will Howard get to play, or who will be the starting goalie?

No Friedel. Only Adin Brown or Timmy to choose from.

Let's be blunt: Anyone who saw Mexico-Brazil knows that Lavolpe and the Mexicans are ready for this. I'll bet it's been their target game to peak all along. They won't be let back home if they lose. Watch out!

(Borgetti's going to make sure he doesn't miss the net in this match. He'll be shooting smart bombs off his foot.)

My T.V. Guide says that ESPN2's playing it at 10, but it got Telemundo correct.

Bah. I'll find out which time's correct so I can set my tape. I'd like to understand what they're saying, but if I must, I'll watch it in Spanish. As long as I can watch it live, it could be in any language and I wouldn't care.

ESPN2 switched from showing it tape-delay at 10PM to showing it live starting at 7:55PM.

THE GAME IS ON ESPN2 AT 7:55EST. IN ENGLISH. LIVE.

It's in Houston, odds are on Tim Howard to start in goal, and Cobi Jones will get the crap kicked out of him (and we'll all be eternally grateful).

Okay, thanks. I'm glad I don't have to go through all sorts of crazy TV/VCR arrangements to make my whole family happy.

I should probably pay more attention to ESPN and ESPN2... I would if I didn't have so much homework...

    I'm thinking a draw.

    1-1 or 0-0

We'll play our normal defensive counter game. It'll be up to Mexico for their high-priced domestic forwards to score one off of one of their chances. Let's hope they keep muffing their chances.

You know, a lot of you folks do a great disservice to the players on these teams. Sure, the match technically doesn't "mean bo diddley," as you so colorfully put it. But a lot of guys are fighting for permanent spots on the national teams (especially the Mexicans, as Lavolpe is in the process of over-hauling that club.) And any American showing up and simply going through the motions should be free kicked by Bruce Arena right out of the stadium.

it's a friendly only on paper
Mexico wants some kind of revenge and save some pride as they will be cheer on by 50 k of their supporters. And as riverplate says a lot of this players on both sides are playing for spots, he others for pride.

The Messycan Fed cheats their own ticket buying public for years by sending half-assed squads of cup-o-coffee types to play friendlies in the USA. They have had to refund their fees and recieved FIFA warnings and you want to talk about disservice because there is finally some pressure on them to show something.

Just shut it cuz the eyerolling is making us all dizzy.
