http://www.thedailycamera.com/bdc/sports/article/0,1713,BDC_2398_1656290,00.html Fans can only check out the next match, a Jan. 18 Gold Cup semifinal rematch against Canada in Fort Lauderdale, via DirectTV pay-per-view and Setanta Sport, which distributes live telecasts to pubs. Tickets for the Feb. 8 friendly with Argentina at the Orange Bowl in Miami went on sale last week via Ticketmaster and ussoccer.com. Any "pubs" in the area carrying this one?
Funny, I was just about to post this same question. Right now there aren't any bars that will be carrying this one as it's a PPV broadcast. If we get enough of us together, I know a number of bars** that would do it so long as we took care of the PPV fee. Total PPV fee depends on the establishment... and if they go the completely legal route. *cough* I've got a list of 5 people that would be interested in doing this. If anyone is interested in putting up $5-7 for a PPV broadcast at a bar, send me a PM so I can add you to the list. ** short list of bars right now would be Aztec Sol, Nutty Irishman (Boulder) and Jackson's (LoDo). No NFL games that day/night so conflicts are minimal. Only conflict would be at Aztec Sol due to Mexican league games.
Here's my dumb question for the afternoon... are you talking about for the 1/18 game or the 2/8 game? The way it's worded in the article and above sounds like it could refer to either. If it's the 1/18 game, I'd love to but can't (my daughter's birthday party). If it's the 2/8 game, count me in.
See title of the thread, see date of the Canada match in the first post... yes, we're talking about the 18th.
bars what about Fados? They seem to get the soccer PPV all the time--plus Jackson's will have a large gridiron crowd that day
Re: bars Fado could care less about showing soccer if it's not from the UK. Even then, it better be ManU, Arsenal, Liverpool, Celtic or Rangers. They seem to run into a lot of "trouble with the satellite" when it comes to games involving other EPL clubs. Yeah, they showed World Cup games when they were open... but who didn't? Aztec Sol and the Nutty Irishman have long shown unbiased support to any and all soccer fans. They also happen to be decorated with a large variety of soccer posters, jerseys, and flags. Aztec Sol was the only place in Denver that would show the Gold Cup final for us last year, and the Nutty was open for every single World Cup game -- regardless of kickoff time. Jackson's is only listed because they are very amenable to groups that want a less-than-popular broadcast, especially those on PPV (I've taken groups there for "fringe" sports for the past 7 years). And there won't be any gridiron conflict -- as I said in my post, there are no NFL games that day.
Thanks. The first post quoted the 2/8 game as well, just prior to "any pubs showing this one?". I asked to be sure.
Anywhere but Croc's. I'll be happy to throw in some bucks to view the match. Jackson's is fine by me.
Has anyone contacted Jackson's to see if they would be willing/able to order the game? I know that Aztec Sol would get the game on for us... as Greenie mentioned, they had the Gold Cup on when no one else did - I think the game was on Univision the day of the final and the local Univision affiliate had a fire or something.
Yep, I have been in contact with all three locations I mentioned. There are no firm plans yet but we are getting very close to having a confirmed viewing party. Being able to give these places an idea of how many people are interested in coming is crucial. Thus I again ask that people send me a quick PM (private message) if you are interested in attending the viewing of this match (if you haven't already contacted me). The Gold Cup final was lost to most viewers because AT&T cable somehow screwed their Telemundo feed (at least that's what the local Telemundo claimed). We called a variety of local bars, the only one who could track down the feed (or claimed to) was Aztec Sol.
FYI, we're currently at 16 people that have confirmed interest. Should have final confirmation on viewing location on Monday or Tuesday.
